ok here are the pics of my fimc setup.

yes there is no filter on the intake and its just the maf screen. ill probaly out a nylon on it eventualy. and a funky k&n after that.

specs are 1.75 out of the turbo bumped out to 2.25 to the inter cooler and 2.5 from the other side of the turbo to the tb.

the bov now sounds like a type s from greddy. verry anoying. like a tssss tssss tssss tssss tssssssssss verry fast.

the color i should powdercoat them can be discussed in the ashtray.

im now hittin about 13-14 psi on the stock boost control.

fuel cut seems to be a problem when at max boost part throtle around 3500 rpm after being sustained for about 10 seconds. fuel cut or a bad miss. im hoping that a 255 will remedy the problem. if it doesnt im gettin a morgie fcd.

seems to pull harder but i cant tell that much yet because i havent stuck my foot in it all the way yet. i scared.

no filter? yikes. Maybe you could get the middle piece after the elbow made to an angle, then have a different elbow leading to the maf and have that go to the filter. Basically set the filter and maf up, and then do custom piping to the turbo, or at least the turbo inlet tube.

Yeah youre definitely gonna want to get a filter, like ASAP. The screen isnt meant to filter the air! Its only there to prevent anything big from hitting the sensor wires. Looks good other than that, oh and you have your BOVs confused, the type S makes the loud scrape. The sound you decribed sounds like compressor surge.

Ya, I was going to say that instead of the coffee cup I would custom fab a new pipe that has a 45 degree in it and then put a cone filter on the end. That's how most of the Liberty RS setups are that I've seen with FMIC's.

Besides that though it's sweet.

The mesh screen isn't to block big things from hitting the sensor, that's the job of the filter. The mesh screen is to dispurse the air so it is more even.

unless you come see it you realy cant fathom how little space there is to do anything. even the way it is now you can't get a filter in under the abs. im having doubts that the k&n even fitting.

if i can get a filter in bewteen the flange and the maf and cut it off ill do that.

nada on the compressor surge. when my pipes were being put in there was a dsm getting I/M tested and it failed. the bov he had was a type s and the sound was the same. plus its a stock bov that was working like clockwork before i put the system in.

if you watch some drifting vids like best motoring the sound the bovs make in thoes vids are similar to what this does

What was done to the DSM?

BOV's shreik. Wastegates (external) flutter. My stock BOV began inducing compressor surge at higher boost levels, and it was simply because it was poorly placed and didn't scavenge enough air. I have yet to hear a recirculating BOV in good working order flutter.

Oh, as for the filter:

Seriously, get rid of the coffee mug. Have your builder make you a new pipe. You need a 45 degree bend off of the 90 degree rubber stock bit. Angle it down slightly, MAF, then cone. Weld bungs for the 2 hoses you need (3 bungs if you insist on keeping the stock boost control). Relocate the charcoal canister over to the drivers side, and you're set.

There is always room.

phill, i dont see why i would need to move the carcoal canister? its not even in the same area as where the cone would be.

the item you see there is a new bit built by the fabricator.

if i get it 45 dgreed out there would be no room for the iac line and the purge line too. in fact thers hardly any romm at all to even put a 45 degree bend. ill try to take some pics to illustrate.

i wish i could hear compressure surge the valve works like it should at about 5 psi but at around 10 it flutters. i can't explain it. i wish i could record it but i have nothing that can do it. its a little to high pitched and sharp to be surge afaik

one last thing. the last filter that i had on there wouldnt clear the hood if it was on the end of a 45

Picture it backwards.

Put a cone filter where the charcoal cannister is. Run piping back to the turbo. Accessorize with fittings.

The fluttering is probably compressor surge. Think. The Supra video I posted is a properly working, external wastegate. What you think is BOV flutter, isn't. That doesn't generally happen. A wastegate sounds like that "wiggle" sort of sound. Compressor surge is a short, sharp, and "surging" tone. Not high pitched, but very defined.

I agree, it'd be easier to get it to work if you started with the filter and worked to the turbo, not the other way around. You can put the air lines anywere if you custom build it.

phill i checked. the filter wont fit where the charcoal canister is.

i took care of the filter issue though but not before it was too late. there is rust on the insides of my pipes where they werent coated. humidity that wasnt filtered thorugh got into the pipes.

i bascialy buchered my filter outta the air box and put a piece of it between the flange and the maf. it probaly wont flow very well but it works for now

on compressure surge. i really dont think its that. it sounds like a valve opening. not like a surge sound. its like a valve thats opening muptiple times instead of one smooth motion. i really dont feel like spending 2 more bills on a
new bov either

The sound you're describing is compressor surge... The bypass valve can't flow all the air that needs to be recirculated, and the excess is bouncing back into the turbo. That's what you're hearing.

Yea, the valve doesn't open multiple times. You are hearing compressor surge .

How could a filter not fit where the charcoal canister used to be? That's a huge area to play with! Maybe the cone you have won't fit, but there is DEFINATELY a filter that will fit there. Gotta be creative man!
