I'm at large right now

Post by entirelyturbo »

Well, not REALLY.

But I did outrun the police today! :D

It was very stupid, you don't have to tell me. I'll never do what I did again, this is the end of my antics on the road.

But I was on Orlando's east-west tollroad doing about 65 in a 55. There was a woman in the fast lane doing about 60. Well, since there was an entrance from another highway just ahead, I got real ballsy and cut over into that entrance. Then I found out why she was going so slow: there was an officer with radar on the other side of the road. He made direct eye contact with me...

I dropped Patti into 4th and hauled ass!!

He got in his car and began pursuit, lights on and everything. I kept on it, knowing there was an exit up ahead. I got to it about 85 and he just came over the crest of the hill to see me getting off

I have what we call a SunPass, which is a little wallet-sized transmitter that allows you to travel on any tollroad in FL and it will deduct from your account automatically. The posted speed limit to go through the SunPass toll booth is 35. I was probably doing like 55

I cut right in between two cars sitting at the intersection, just at the perfect time when there was a break in traffic, and cut out onto the main road through town. I went down a couple blocks, just made it under a red light, then cut down a side street and lost him! I took Patti home immediately and got Ginger out of the garage and plan to drive her through the weekend.

I'm almost positive he didn't get my tag number, because the woman's car was blocking his view and by the time he would have a chance I would already be too far away for him to see it. I'm concerned of the possibility that he could get my SunPass information and get led right to my address, but he might not have even thought of that, and if he did, it probably isn't worth it.

But yeah, I'm a cop-evader now, and I'm bad, yes I know. I'll never do that again. You gotta admit it's still kinda cool though :D

I hope the toll points don't have cameras that have accessable tapes. . . you could be fucked if they do and he requests to look at them.

Damn. . . that's nuts.

I lost a cop once in my '84 GL (that's the only one I know of - there are a few I bolted on assuming they were going to come after me, but not seeing them turn around), but nothing like that. I never would've chanced what you did unless my car was much faster, and even then ...

Well, he wouldn't need the shot of my plate if he can get my billing address and more just from the SunPass account :( That's why I realize I'm still not out of the woods yet.

What sucks worse though is the SunPass is on my grandparents' account and address , so I could make their life a temporary hell too.

What I did was very stupid, and I'm fairly certain that if he did catch me I'd be in jail right now. I'll never do it again.

And I do realize this could be considered evidence, but I hope you guys are friends enough not to call the Orlando Police Department on me :)

I doubt you'll get any squealers from here . . . especially since you know what you did wasn't something you should do again.

Yeah. . . my second thought was your pass.

Working with a bonified hacker in network security here at work, you tend to think of ways to be untraceable or to trace other people. . . in this case, how to document your car passing through the checkpoint. Pass, then camera documentation. I just thought of them in reverse order. ;)

F*ck the police! We's got the lips on a statue. Hopefully he wasn't one of those vindictive small-penis cops that will go out of his way to get you and is more like a regular guy who would swear and then get on with the day,

The sunpass style automatic payment devices do NOT calculate speed. At least they don't here.

Most DO have a camera though...

I dunno. I've run the toll-bridge once, and nothing ever happened. I wasn't running from the cops though.

My car is more than capable of out running a police cruiser in any situation under almost any circumstance, but I don't think I could EVER do something like that.

Glad your OK, hope you don't get bitten, but I do hope you learned from this.

Oh, just so you know. APB's last for 72 to 96 hours. Keep your car in a garage, or under a car cover for that amount of time.

Patti is parked in the garage and will remain there for the weekend at the least...

I majorly learned from this. Never again. I will never pull a maneuver like I did again, and if I get the fuzz on my ass, I'll never outrun them again. I got away with this once, there's no way I'll get away with it again.

That was very chancy. The time I got away the odds were well in my favor.

Why were you running in the 1st place? YOu better have had 2 ounces of weed in the car or something... cause if you would have endangered the lives of others for pure stupidity well, then you should be caught.

Maybe you've learned your lesson and wont run from the police, but will you still do 65 in a 55?

I speed almost everywhere i go (mostly cause my speedometer is way off). But when i see the red & blue i usually just pull over and prepare to kiss some ass.

But since we're all confessing our subaru sins here, i'll admit. I blew a red light... was completly red and i got busted. Not by the camera, but by a Patrol Car. Instead of run, I did what I should have and pulled over. Was completly honest to the cop and he let me go.

I wouldn't really worry. First, the cop would have to care. (Easy ticket, easy money? If the answer is no, then they usually would say screw it). Then they would have to prove you were driving the car. A lot for them to prove, even if you did get taken in, the prosecutor would probably drop it.

No, the cop jumped into his cruiser and pursued me because I swung over into a merging lane to pass somebody... :(

Didn't see this before. I think they do here. I'm not sure, but IIRC, if you go through it at 45mph 3 times, they just kill your transmitter, that's it.

Wow Michael.. There's something different about you now. I for one, am proud, though. That may just be my immaturity talking, however, I'm always out to spite the boys in blue when they's barelling down on you. Patti's red, too, huh?
More than likely, he probably gave up. I don't know what the cops are like around there, but in most municipalities now, police have given up chasing people thru the streets, as it causes more mayhem and ultimately, damage that can and will be attributed to the police dept, rather than the criminal. It's a PR thing, I think. But, he may see your car again, and he may see YOU again, as you said he made eye contact. You haven't seen the last of the po-pos just yet, but you can bet that driving ginger for awhile may alleviate the problem immediately.
LMAO, you're a riot, though.

awww...c'mon, bignose, you have to appreciate it for the sheer stupidity of it. He admitted it was wrong, swears he'll never do it again. I believe him. Plus, he's taking the right approach and driving another car for awhile. He wasn't being a braggart, either, just wanted to tell us an exciting story.
..and exciting it was!

yeah, it's an exciting story and now it's getting glamorized.

- he admitted he was wrong, that does not make him right
- swears he'll never do it again , doesn't mean he didn't do it
- right approach by driiving another car, how about wrong approach by needing to drive another car.

i'm not being a prick, i just try not to glorify stupidity.. i guess that's just the canadian in me.

Not just canadian Bignose.

Whats worse is everyone here condoning this type of activity. I say you go rob a bank now Mike. Im sure you can get away from them.

And you still never answered my question. You probably wont run from the cops again... but will you still do 65 in a 55? And what will you do next time the cop turns his red's and blues on to go after you? You mean to tell me your going to just pull over... knowing youve gotten away before and could probably again.

bullshit...

Robbing a bank is too hard to get away with, but I'd fully condone it over robbing someone else.

okay, i'm done.

Some of you have a real allegiance to this responsibilty thing.. I'm lost as to your cause.
What are the positives of him sticking around and facing the cop?
-driver's points
-ticket
-humiliation, etc.
That's about it. Honestly, if he thought he could get away with it again, why not?
I'm playing the Devil's Advocate, of course, for the sake of argument, but there HAS to be more to dicsuss on this.
