Please be careful man. I don't want to see you get hurt or in trouble. I recently had another incident and I'm going to really tone things down now. I did get my driving without a license charge dismissed so that's a little good news but it's best to play by the rules if you can. Never thought I'd say that!

But if you rob a bank, you're robbing tons of people all at once. How is that better? I don't condone robbing anything.evolutionmovement wrote:Robbing a bank is too hard to get away with, but I'd fully condone it over robbing someone else.

Well, yeah, this was a stupid thing to do. But on the other hand, it worked. Good job on that.
I don't know what I'd do if I ever got the fuzz on me. I drive carefully, so I've never had a problem. And on the really fun back roads, there aren't any cops. So that solves that.
Just my two cents.

I'd rather rob a bank than anywhere. 7-11's are to hot, so you can't knock those over. Banks are probably a lot easier if you plan it right. 7-11's are snatch and grabs.
I really think the hostility in here is a little high (coming from me, that's saying something). None of us are his parents, or the cop that was behind him, or him for any matter. None of us are condoning the behavior, but I know it's not my position in his life to hold his hand and tell him what not to do. I don't approve, I hope you don't think that I do, but my reprimanding him isn't going to benefit anyone. Like Tristian, I believe him when he says he won't do it again. Everyone fucks up, in this case, everyone is alright and nothing is permanantly damaged. I know he knows that he won't be so lucky if there is a next time.

Really, I never asked anyone to condone my behavior. As Tristan said, I didn't really post this to brag about ditching the cops, just to tell of my experience and how it will be my one and only.
Those of you who have personally called me stupid in this thread, you really haven't accomplished anything. This will be the 5th time in this thread I said I was very stupid for what I did, and that I will never do it again. I also have never had the attitude that I was invincible and was on a mission to see just how many cops I could run away from.
I'm someone who doesn't need the full consequences of my actions to learn a lesson, because I think very hard about what those consequences could actually be. If everything had gone in the worst way possible, I could have lost control and crashed into someone and seriously injured them and maybe myself too, been caught by the police anyway and have to face criminal charges, and basically just fuck up the next couple years of my life.
I'll say it one last time, so everybody's clear. I was very stupid for what I did, both pulling the maneuver of passing in the merging lane and running from the police, I'll never do it again. (Brian, I might still do 65 in a 55, I speed, you speed, everyone speeds. But if the police catch me doing in, I'm pulling right over from now on.)

We put our money in banks.
Banks pay for their insurance with our money.
We also use the same insurance companies, so when the banks suffer , everyone's premiums go up in the long run.
It's a global economy, money is all recycled. Theft is theft, it doesn't matter if it's my neighbor stealing my jack stands, or someone stealing from a bank. Stealing from one entitly rather than an other does not make it any better or any worse.

The FDIC insures banks. No one but banks have insurance from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. You put your money in a bank, and banks usually have insurance up to 100k. Someone robs that bank, my premiums don't go anywhere. Why would they? The bank president doesn't just call you and say "sorry, you don't have any more money" and they don't say "sorry, but we are taking an extra 20,000 out of your account to pay for someone robbing us." It doesn't work that way. Banks borrow your money, but they pay you for it. Never will it happen that a bank will say "we aren't going to be paying any interest this year, someone robbed us and we need to regroup." It's business, and federally insured at that. The government LOVES money, and would rather spend minimal amounts of it FINDING who stole the money, than to just take the loss. When was the last successful major bank robbery? And when did that amount to more than 1 million dollars? 1 million dollars is piss in a bucket when the national budget is 3,000,000 times that, so even if they DIDN'T recover the funds, it's not going to be the be-all-end-all. 1 million dollars split among the US population of 295,215,393 is not even 1 cent per person. Hardly a tax hike. Even if it was a 10 million dollar hit, that's STILL only 3 cents per person. Add insurance, and be conservative and call it a 20 million dollar total loss. STILL only a few cents per person.bignose wrote:Banks have insurance.. lets review.

While it IS a global economy, it's hardly the butterfly effect. If someone robs a bank in California, I doubt it will effect the money in my pocket, and if I leave money in my bank account, it's only going to appreciate.
No one *seriously* said it was right, or that robbing one was better than another. Steve made a joke. I made a joke. THAT is reality. Welcome to it.

I think it's funny how in this thread people are defending his actions (at least it seems that way to me), whereas in TurboLegacy's thread of driving 100 mph in the snow there was no defense at all. Subyluvr2212's actions were just as stupid if not moreso than TurboLegacy's.

This is true. As I recall, in both instances I didn't really condone, but I didn't flame... in the 100mph one I made light of a situation where I was going the limit and nearly understeered into a wall on a dry road, and in this I was just kinda "ehh" about it.

THAWA, you have a point. TurboLegacy doing 100mph in the snow is dangerous. However, Michael's situation was on dry pavement (mostly dry?) where control of the car can be better predicted, as opposed to friction-challenged scenarios, like snow.I think it's funny how in this thread people are defending his actions (at least it seems that way to me), whereas in TurboLegacy's thread of driving 100 mph in the snow there was no defense at all. Subyluvr2212's actions were just as stupid if not moreso than TurboLegacy's.
In the snow, we could more easily predict the damage done, and even under the best of judgements, you still couldn't account for all the possibilites that somone, or someone's dog, or somene and their dog were walking and then struck by a crazyman in a turbo legacy doing 100mph in the snow. I partially defended TurboLegacy, IIRC, as I did assume he was driving as he stated in his own neighborhood, where he could better imagine the outcome of his actions. Not to mention, he was bragging about doing 100mph in the snow --our Michael here, he decided to buck up and tell us he was ashamed first. That counts for why we flamed TurboLegacy(Realized I don't know your first name, pal, sorry!) and not Michael as much.
It's all in how you compartmentalize your information. 100mph in unpredictable circumstances is far superior in stupidity to 65+mph in more ideal conditions. Choose the lesser of two evils here.
Really, they're two different things, but.. since you all love to compare, I'm playing along.
I'm all for equality and straight-across-the-boardedness when it comes to making rules, judgement calls, etc. However, it's the environmental variables that define the rights and wrongs of the scenario.
You don't have to go to college to figure this, yo.
-Knock Knock!
-Who's there?
- Rob a bank.
You only live once, right? (YOLO!) As Phil mentioned, pulling off a well-thought bank robbery can lead to something pretty wonderful, provided you spend that cash in the right places. Who knows? Maybe subyluvr's driving skills may get him on the next Ocean's 13, 14, or George Clooney's herem. The Police, FBI, (all they do is bank robberies) and government agencies DO care about the money, but again, as Phil said, a one, or even TEN mil hit isn't going to go any further than setting a record. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to seize opportunities to rob a bank in a town I don't often visit, and would have an easier escape route from, as opposed to the municipalities where I live. Any bank with at least 3 intersections and a freeway onramp will do if you're confident you can get away with it. That, and fate better be on your side, depending on what you said to the teller when you asked him/her to hand over the cash. (Ask NICELY, and don't forget to say thank you.)
IF you get that far, you better make the right turns, literally. I read somewhere that something like 90% of bank robbers are caught in a particular direction from the robbery site. Something like they always go west, or some shit. So try heading EAST, if you're feeling ballsy.
..and do it yourself, or kill your partner. --There's no loyalty among theives. (Although, that doesn't account for criminal masterminds like myself, or crime families like The Inc, or The Sopranos, but they do more than steal. )
Again, compartmentalizing, I see it as a meritocracy. If you can rob the bank and get away with it, you've probably put in enough thought, effort, and work for your reward. It's not an attack on any one person, entitiy, or probably for any externally motivated reason (aside from the Manson robberies, but that's completely different, too.) other than need and greed.(Which is a personal motivation) I don't think any bank robbers, --caught and doing time, or not-- had any intentions of physically harming any of the bank personnel, or their clients.
It's still just business...

From what I've seen in the past it's pretty pointless to argue with some about any kind of risky behavior on the road. Time and again there are always those who rigidly come down on the side of EXTREME caution and that's their right. Some people are risk takers and some people like to play it safe (zzzzz). Unfortunately, playing it safe doesn't guarantee one's safety on the road although statistically it makes a difference. That doesn't mean I myself think it's always ok to take chances but I don't think it's such a big deal unless someone is really acting crazy and threatening the lives of others.
Just so it's said I'm not faulting anyone on how they feel about driving safely. Everyone has their opinion but ,speaking for myself, I couldn't care less whether or not someone approves of my driving habits (except for Johnny law) but everyone is entitled to have their say and that's what a discussion forum is for I guess. Ultimately, driving is like anything else, you get back what you put in. I've driven over 100 mph many times because where I used to live you could. When there's miles of open highway, no cars on the road, no place for the man to hide, the music is playing and it's a beautiful sunny day I just gots to tear it loose every now and again, I'm not afraid, sorry. Imagine driving on the Audabon (sp).[/code]

Man. I just don't know about some of you guys. Lighten up a little. He didn't come on here to brag.
And don't be stupid and rob a bank. The ammount of $$$ you can get from the teller is maybe 5k, not worth the effort of planing a succesful robbery. Not to mention getting caught. How much living on the run will 5k get you?
If you are smart enough to pull a job off without getting caught you should be smart enough to find a good score. Or find a way to just make good money with your smarts.

I got arrested driving my friend's 2000 mustang GT. I apparently was doing 66 in a 55, big 4 lane highway out in the country of nebraska and came over the top of a hill to see a police officer standing with a radar gun pointed at me and further down the road was another officer on a side road to the left further down. So I cruised right by the standing cop and saw him grab his radio on his shoulder and took the next right. The cop who was on the same road but on the other side of the highway started to come after me but a cube van pulled in behind.
I put the pedal to the floor and we skated off at a little over a 100. Then i saw the cop trying to pass the cube van so i slowed down then pulled over and waited for him to catch up. He pulled in behind me then turned his lights on and i got a 66 in 55 mph speeding ticket along with a trip to the county jail for a couple hrs for an unpaid fine.
My first instict is always to run. I usually take a split second and think about it. If i dont lose them in the first 30 seconds, i pull over. If they are directly behind me, i pull over. Now, i just do the speedlimit and they leave me alone for the most part.
There was the time where i went through an atm with my gf and a friend at about 10pm at night and stopped in the parking lot for five minutes when a female police officer pulled in behind me and told me she smelled weed in the car. Took three hrs for them to search us and the car, then us again when they didnt find anything. Stuff like that really pisses me off.

They wasted THREE HOURS on you?? Wow, that's some vindiction.
Were you or your gf smoking at the time? (even cigarettes?)
That's odd that they'd get you in an atm drive-thru, too.. those places at least have cameras. The cop should have known the camera would've saved you, in any case...
Running first is a good instinct; it keeps you safe. ...except when you do it as you described, dzx. Once you've bolted for it, cops have a completely different attitude. When they catch up to you --and they will-- they're not going to be nearly as nice, especially if they realize you've tried to ditch them...
