Subaru Pictures from the LA Auto Show

Post by jamal »

Not sure if I should have put this in pictures... move it I guess if it should be. I figured that since it's not my car maybe I should put this here.

Here's the new B9

Here's a rally car they had there

Here's that STi Drag car. It has 255s all around and the scoop's on backwards

I took a lot of other pictures at the show that can be found here if you want to look.

The B9 actually uses the vagina looking front end? Damn, that is quite unfortunate.

Still, better looking than I was expecting.

Do the rally cars use aluminum hoods, or carbon fiber hoods?

At the DC International show, and the Baltimore international show, the rally cars on display had aluminum hoods, so I didn't know if they were genuine practice/spare vehicles, or if they were just replica's of the real deal. I doubt greatly that they were the REAL rally cars.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a real rally car. I think it had an aluminum hood, and it didn't look like it had a sequential gearbox, either.

I saw an STi with Rally decals, a hoodscoop, and some nice gold wheels that may have been Prodrives the other day. I was in a work car and waved and gave him a thumbs up but he just looked at me wierd.

I took a few more pictures of the B9 and some other cars there, but they were blurry because of my camera settings. It was the first place I went and I didn't have it set up quite right.

I'lI predict that Subaru’s PR department will be “pulling a beemer” pretty soon. Consumer says, “holy hell that looks like crap,” Subaru says, “you have to see it in person, pictures don’t do it justice.” I don’t see too many Subaru faithful being lured to that, and not many first suby owners liking it either. And it looks like the exhaust pipe is on the drivers side, don't the WRC's have it on the pass-side?

Nope, driver's side. Depending on which side the driver is on

Exhaust comes out rear left.

that was not a real rally car, just a stock car w/ decals and a cage - manufacturers pull this kinda stuff all the time. There was a "focus WRC" at the SEMA Show too, in the ford motorsport booth, but it wasn't either. It was a stock focus with a cage.

Yeah, I heard ESX was looking for a female driver for their car.. doesn't the real one have something like 1000hp to the wheels?
..and yeah, the B9 looks.. *sigh* let's just say it doesn't give me hope. It looks like it got mugged by Kia's new luxury sedan, and front-end elements ala-Jag.
:(
Even the rally car is a bit distasteful.. Mechanically, they're all beautiful, but.. Subaru's got some design issues to work out, it seems.

If you'll recall one of Subaru's recent concept cars had the same kind of grill. Funny how Subaru hires an Alfa-Romeo designer and the new Subarus suddenly turn into Alfa-clones on the front.

Whoop! I was wrong. I was picturing the exhaust of a US Spec Rally car. Doh! Yeah, I should have known that I was possibly wrong because the exhaust shot I had in my mind was on a white car!

The dealer around here sold a few standard cars with rally decals. Have no idea who bought those rolling cop magnets and I haven't seen them driving around.

Too bad when he cribbed the Alfa grille, he inverted it. Looks stupid. I get the 'wings' to either side to reflect Nakajima aircraft, but who the hell cares about Subaru's past? Not the general consumer. It's nothing that special anyway; Saab, BMW, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, FIAT all have aircraft backgrounds too and there may be a few others I forgot. Maybe if the three pieces were merged it would look better. Something like an Aston Martin grille, but that's not so bad.

Park it next to a Kaiser Darrin and fantasize about BJs and vages.
