On a white car I'd think about gold, bronze, or graphite/gun metal

I replaced the oil seals on the 6spd, put in the axle stubs, and pressed in new shifter joint bushings. The 6spd's ready to be swapped in. I'll probably try taking the 5spd out on Friday.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
Got to test out the LBS (locking brake system) today doing 50 through an intersection. 3 cars attempted to make a left in front of me. The first had time, the 2nd kind of hate you just don't stop, and 3rd person your an idiot and didn't even try and pay attention but thank you for not trying to proceed through your bad judgement. The worst part was I kind of saw it coming but said what the heck lets see how this goes. Tires locked up and squealed, saw I was good and let off the brake all in about a half second. Always wanted to see how non-ABS would react in real word. Only second time ever getting them to lock up in 7 years. ABS is so over rated.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
The last time I needed abs and didn't have it was in my 89 Volvo. Was in the merging lane on to the Flats in Marysville, and we are doing around 50 when there's a panic stop. Of course the road was greasy and wet.
I have a couple car lengths between me and the car ahead. So I push the brakes. Oh crap this is for real. OH CRAP I AINT GONNA MAKE IT!
My brakes are locked up and I just slide, slide, slide towards the tow truck in front of me. Turning the wheel does nothing to change my direction, I'm like a missile heading straight for a massive steel bumper. About 4 inches (seriously!) from the tow truck's bumper I finally stop, with my nearly new tires flat spotted. Gotta change my drawers when I get home.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
It is true that I didn't do everything possible to get myself out of the situation. I may have been distracted as well. Either way I didn't crash but the biggest point that stuck with me is that I had no control over my direction of travel in that panic braking situation.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
In panic situations, threshold braking or working that modulation so you don't lock the brakes up is very difficult. It's a skill that has to be honed, and don't think most of us are put in that situation frequently enough to change our normal reactions. I've been in a similar situation, and there are times when ABS will help save your bacon.
On the flip side, I've been playing around and locked up the wheels on a slippery road at slow speeds and ABS increased my stopping distance compared to if the tires would have just locked. I was beginning to wonder if the car was going to stop in time. I ended up just having to really stand on the brakes to get the car to stop.
So it is a dual edge sword. I would say....most of the time I would probably want ABS for a daily driver.
