i've used simple green. It's not that amazing. And yes i've used it correctly.

simple green is a degreaser, it will go through oil based products like wd40.

why not use a chemical designed for engine bay applications?

Don't be dumb like me and worry about a CEL that goes away by itself. A week later, and many, many clear memory procedures and 1 pulling of the fuse, and I still only have wastegate boost.

For the life of me, I can't remember the exact procedure I used the last time I had this happen.

From now on, the engine bay gets dirty... Nuts to this headache!

But yeah, I found Simple Green to work fairly well, until I tried to use it on the really caked / cooked on grease and oil (like on the compressor side of the turbo). Then I turned to brake cleaner and a brush.

huh...I've powerwashed my engine (and undercarriage) 2x in the last 2-3 months.
I hit it w/ foaming enginebrite and then blast away. No problems, maybe I let it dry before tring to drive it lol

That could be it. I had heard its best to drive it right away, and I guess there was enough water somewhere to throw the CEL.

@legacy 777 -
it is facing downwards!

but looking in the bonnet - the clearest spot for me in there to mount it is (going from memory) almost directly over the cv on the (nz) drivers side of the car. it was mounted there - with the horn pointed directly down. however -there is nothing between the horn and the road.

so when charging thru a ford, water got in there and it was pretty damn quiet.
the second time was an under-body wash after driving on a beach (needed to get salt off) and that made it VERY hard to hear.

at the moment - its twisted on its side - so that water *shouldnt* get directly into it.
