Any luck? I'm wondering if the diff is actually a bit different since I think if I remember right the picture showed the left and right axle stubs being different lengths.

Here is some more info
The 2.5RS axles and SS Legacy rear axles are not the same. The 2.5RS' are longer and have the the retaining clip in a different location.
So these is very important when swapping to a 4.11 rear end that you use the 2.5RS axles because the legacy ones will just pop out of the diff.
Also, the 2003 WRX sedan axles are similar to the 2.5RS axles. These are the perfect axle if you have done a 4.11 swap and have done a WRX wide track swap (woo thats me)
Heres some pics. The short green one is the SS legacy's, there is one 2.5RS axle (rust on on the top), and the two shinny ones are for a 2003 WRX sedan.
You can see the difference in the legacy's retainer clip location in the picture here
I should also note that you SHOULD NEVER EVER TAKE THE RETAINER CLIPS OUT OF THE REAR DIFF. IT DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THEM OUT AND BACK IN. THAT CLIP IS MOST LIKELY NOT YOUR ISSUE! Notice how bend to shit it is after removal....
