That looks like my livingroom floor the day I got all my stuff together. Well, minus the carillo rods. I just didn't have the budget.

Maybe next time I build my subbies engine.
Best of luck and keep us posted!

I wonder if my EVO3 16G 8cm^2 will put too much hp.......I've got ported EJ205 WRX heads/TGVs running the STOCK 22T SB in my WRX swap.
I kind of worry a little that the rods may go...

Nico,
Didn't I just see pictures of new rods? If you are replacing the rods it shouldn't be a problem that you are facing. I mean, a good tune still goes without saying. I am just saying that you aren't really at risk of putting a bent rod through your block since you replaced the rods.
Like me new signature?

Nico,
First things first. WHAT are you using for EM? I hope you have seen that you are past the capabilities of the factory Ej22T ECU and have moved on to something more powerful. The factory ECU is great for 200whp cars. Not so much for 300whp cars...

autronic and this time around i got a j&s knock controle system comeing in, so this time its going to be very hard to blow up.

So then we'll push towards the limits when I get it tuned then. I'm using a Cobb AP2. Getting it Tuned in 2 weeks by Jorge from P&L.

I thought folks said you were over the stock ej22t rod reliable HP limit & that led to your hole in the block...?.....
You've been on a Autotronic for a little while now, any issues with it?

fuji k it could brake a rod are you makeing 300whp
BXSS i must have been over the HP, or the rods where old, or the tune was bad..... ???? you got me..
but about the autronic its sick you can do everything but no knock controle...... but i got a j&s knock system no more messing around for me.

i am going full out boost on this next build and going to the q mile and race track to kick the living shit out of this car....... why becuse i am better of blowing it up while having fun this time then babying it like the last time.

well... my setup should be making close if not more than 300whp on pump.
WRX swap w/ stock EJ22T shortblock.
EVO3-16G-8cm^2, headerback, turbo inlet, eBay TMIC, Wlbro FP, uncapped and rescaled stock WRX injectors. The WRX heads are ported to mimic the JDM big ports.
SO THIS MEANs, I can go buy rods that are made for the STi and install them into my EJ22T shortblock. I'm going to have CP make me some pistons at are 8.0:1CR. My CR right now with my '97 EJ22E HG, WRX head, EJ22T piston is 8.35:1 after doing the math. The car feels plenty strong with just 10-12psi with the basemap that I was given. Very nice torque in the mid range. I VERY LIKE!!!!

yup your around that range for sure sounds like a nice set up......sounds like my first set up when i had when i put my ej20k heads on...... i dont think the sti rods will fit........ what modle sti? sti as in 2.5l sti north american cars?
are you going to use the ej22t crank?
Posted: Fri Jan 04, 2008 7:33 pm
by FuJi K
yups, I'm sticking to my EJ22 crank. I like the smoothness. Looking at rods made for the USDM STi 2.5L. They share the same rod length, there for I can put them in with forged pistons from CP for my 2.2L and be all set to go.
I was like....if I'm not shooting for more, should I just pick up some OEM STi rods, or go for forged rods. Paulter(sp?).
I'll eventually build my '99 EJ22E with STi rods and aftermarket pistons for kicks and giggles.

thats a tuff question becuse your all ready in the motor so it might be better to go with the paulter rods but the sti ones sounds good as well.
your like me lol, i am building an extra motor for my new legacy turbo just to have in stock trim, vf34 fmic ej22t with 2.5l rs n/a dohcs, and a turbo intake manifold from ?? (still looking for one).
