I love the label mod.
So without a DCCD controller, it acts as an open differential, right? What's it like driving with an open center diff?
thanks
yup, its like an open diff. well, it kind of sends the power wherever it wants when it breaks traction... and it usually ends up sending it to the rear wheels, so the back end will come around alot easier if you're not paying attention.

Jake--your stock axles mated right up to the 6 speed tranny, it looks like. At some point, later '04 or starting in '05, the shaft that the axle mates up to on the tranny changed. On your six speed the male shaft sticks out. Later on they had a female in the tranny, correct?

yeah, my tranny actually started out with the female style in it. i got the stub shafts from a like 99 forester at tranny and put them in

Nice work Jake, I'll have to see that in person some time.
Did you get any sensors from the donor car? Or are you planning on using all aftermarket stuff like the kit jamal posted?

no, its too much work to wire in the factory DCCD... so i'm just going to get an aftermarket controller.

That sounds about right I heard of some shop over hear (ICS in CT) pulling the e-brake up a few clicks & doing RWD burnouts on STis....

like a 2002 WRX starter is what i used
beatersubi wrote:Why not? How are they different?
they're different in that the 5 speed legacy starter i had on my car had a little collar around the shaft/gear and it hit the clutch or the flywheel (i cant really remember) and the impreza starter had like a half enclosed shaft/gear... its kind of hard to describe, i'll just have to take some pictures of the starters to show you.
on a side note i have a VERY short video of the leggy in the snow (the memory card ran out of memory right in the middle of my drift

This thread might be useful for anyone with 6mt swap questions-
http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... es&start=0
93forestpearl dropped one in when he was building his car. Some of the pics are dead but there's good info.
Jake - I don't understand the problem with the starter.
I did a 05 wrx tranny swap and I reused my legacy starter, so in some way the WRX and Legacy starters have to be interchangeable.
Pics will probably help. Good job on the swap though, took you a lot less time that it did for me when I did the tranny swap.
