It does significantly help, as the cooler air is less prone to pre-detonation...but I also agree that intercoolers are not bandaids
Put some sort of EM or a knock reader on your car. I bet when you throw on a TMIC on the knock goes up. I am not certain on why this happens, but it does when you go to say a TMIC to a FMIC. A larger, more efficient intercooler will bring your air closer to ambient in the charge pipes.

no intercooler and 40psi of boost and the engine finally blew.
personally,im not worried about 14psi
