OK, well I got a hold of Alpine and they told me that Apple redesigned the new iPods and it's their fault that it doesn't charge anymore. He said something about the powering of the ipod being different hardware wise now and that I now have to buy a new adapter to plug into the ipod fullspeed cable I already bought to allow it to charge the new iPod touches and Nanos and iPhones.
Great, another $50 peripheral I have to buy to get this thing to charge. Really lame guys.
This KCE-422TR adapter charges your second-generation iPod touch or fourth-generation (curved body) iPod nano while it's connected to select Alpine car stereos. Simply plug the adapter into your player, then connect the KCE-422i full-speed iPod cable (not included) to the adapter.
So that's $75 in a cable and adapter you have to buy just to use your Ipod Touch on an Alpine head unit these days.
Nice.

The Alpine tech guy also told me I just need to do a "hard reboot" by holding down the home and power button for about 5 seconds until it reboots and then it should play my songs on the Alpine deck again.
It worked. Props to the Alpine guy.
There's no way I'm dropping $50 to get my ipod to charge though. He did say there's a scosche version for probably $20 though...
Found it, it's called the Scosche IFWAR. It's still $25-$30 depending on where you buy it. That's still a rip off.

This is why I prefer listening to my iPod through the good old 3.5mm headphone jack.
My Fit just has a plain Aux jack for headphone cable. Sure, I still have to control the iPod manually instead of through the stereo, but there's no connectivity/compatibility issues.
I once went on a trip with a friend who has an 09 GTI. I plugged my iPod into the integration port, and his stereo made up about 20something playlists at random, and most of them repeated about halfway through. It only found about half of the music.
I can gripe about the procedure I have to go through to get it to sync with my iTunes (i.e. you can't plug in the iPod and then open iTunes, it'll never sync)... but that's my only complaint with my iPod, which I've had going on a year and a half now.

I've had one of those radio cradle chargers for about 4 years and it works well. Pulled off the antennae and I get no interference most of the time (was annoying in tunnels). I only have to change the station slightly when going to NYC. Sound quality and volume does drop and pulling the antennae means hardly any radio, but that works for me since I never listen to the radio anyway and no antennae is less drag.
Anyone seen the stereo that the ipod goes into like a cassette (ask your parents, kids)? I was planning on doing this myself by gutting an old cassette deck, but buying would be much cheaper and easier (I think they're around $150).
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
Yeah, if I ever paint my car I'm going to do some removing of badges, filling of holes and remove the antenna all together. I loathe the radio and all the music they play on it. Don't matter which station, I hate them all. Plus I hate listening to static in the background.
I love ipod. I always have. I never sync mine though. I do it all manually. I have a bunch of music on there that won't fit on my iPod that I don't want it trying to sync.
It's working now though so I'm happy. Not charging but it plays. Been in a really metal music mood the last week so I've been really rockin out in the metro on my way to and from work and the gym.

My alarm clock has an slot that charges/plays my Ipod. Bought it from HHGregg for around $50 I think.
For a minute, Steve, I thought you were talking about the cassette adapter that allowed you to play your portable CD player in your cassette car stereo. That was my in-car CD player all through high school!
I'm strongly considering just removing my stereo completely from my Legacy. It's not my daily anymore, and the small weight savings are worth more to me than getting tangled up in all that ICE nonsense.
