I suppose it's possible that the canister might be involved...

The past few days, when it's been *really* cold, twice I've had my first application of the brake during a drive go unboosted. Like, the brakes worked fine, but I got no power braking help, as if the car wasn't running. That got me thinking that maybe I have some weird leak in the vacuum hose going to the power brake booster... It's been too cold to go out and examine it though.

The canister purge valve has absolutely nothing to do with bad idle. The EVAP system is simply to reduce dangerous gas fumes from the tank...

Like Legacy777 said, spray some brake cleaner in it. That might unstick it. If it doesn't, don't worry about it, that means the valve is useless anyway...

I guess I was hoping that if I fixed one problem, another would go away too. :)

It looks like I'm going to have to brave the cold today and get under the hood... :(
