Honestly, I don't think the centering ring is a big deal. The wheels on my Legacy are lug-centric and I've been using them since 1997 without any issues. As Vikash mentioned, you just take a little bit of time to get the lugs started and centered properly....it's no big deal.
The wheel offset is a greater issue IMO.

the lugs are tapered. you would be very hard pressed to actually get the wheel on there off centered.
additionally, 225/45 is the right overall diameter. 215/40 is quite a bit shorter.

I got those tires at around 85%. They're mounted on wheels though. So you should buy the whole shebang, and sell your wheels to euroshark guy. lol

WRX wheels are dirt cheap, at least the common split 5 spoke ones, I had mine up for a while for $100 and no one wanted them.
Only wheels I like out of that set are the RS...But I'm picky.

i too run VW steel rims for winter they fit fine 16" too
just wait till summer when i put on my subaru 16x9 widened steelies
