Dropped my newly acquired 25d heads of to a machinist recommend to me by a good friend. My friend worked at a machine shop for 30yrs and one of the the guys he worked with started his own independent business. Because it's a friend of a friend the guy was willing to work on my heads earlier than later.
This time of year most all of the shops are super backed up. Everyone else I contacted was backed up to march. Winter time build, summer time race.

After meeting the new machinist I have never felt so good about having someone else work on my stuff. This guy was incredibly knowledgeable. He has all the right tools to get major jobs done, CNC , flow bench ect.
In the work order I requested a cleaning, resurface, valve guides, valve stem seals, 4 angle valve job, and a little polish on the cam journals.

Also got valves orderd. I decided to pick supertech valves basically for availability. Ferrea custum valves would take a couple months to get and more $$$.
Standard size intake nitride coated and standard size inconel nickel exhaust valves. Never used supertech before but hear good things.

I really only wanted better gas mileage for the legacy but its quickly taking a bigger path.

Replaced HGs in my Outback. Had a shattered knock sensor and replaced that too. Did the job outside in 20 odd degree weather, leaving the engine in car. Brrrr!

Working in the cold sucks! Things dont move as easily! Ive never done HG's in the car, I always figured it would be easier to pull the engine. I thought there wouldn't be enough clearance, especially with DOHC.

Not much but put in my whiteline front sway bar last night, man what a difference over stock bar. Now just have to save for the rear.

Couple weeks ago the ej22e in my outback blew its head gaskets. I replaced the gaskets, but the water pump leaked ever since. I resealed it several times, but it would always leak between the pump and the block.

The surfaces were both polished and flat, and the last 2 times i used RTV on both sides of the gasket. Same result.

My conclusion is even though my block and heads were still within spec for flatness, i actually warped the waterpump! I put a new oem water pump and gasket and also waterpump rated rtv and so far so good.

There's a hole on the pump they start leaking from when the bearing goes bad. I believe it's called a weap hole.

Stephan is my witness, it was leaking from where it mates to the block, lol.

I hate 23 year old wiring. Just wanted to vent that out.
This week I've had an intermittent check engine light. I get about 8 codes but I've narrowed it to a short in the knock sensor wire. It's extremely brittle and any time I try to move it more cracks form. I've noticed by jostling it I can get the CEL to disappear. It was good for a couple days but its back. Limp mode is my favorite... *sigh*...
If I have time this weekend I will likely need to run a new wire from the sensor to the ECU .
I think when I do my DOHC hybrid I will take the opportunity to run new wires for a few sensors and possibly build a new engine harness.

Woohoo no more CEL !
I couldn't wait for the weekend to fix my knock sensor wire, the power loss was unbearable, so I left work early today to tackle the problem.
Lucky for me my work has a spool of a couple hundred feet of this high grade shielded wire, it was from an old project so I can take as much as I want/need.

Ran new wire from sensor to ECU.

I use that same type of wire to install cop push bar lights and roof lights on the rigs at work

Do you guys know the wire type or where to purchase it online as I'm sure a lot of other people could use that info because the stock knock sensor wire is shot.

When I go to work on Monday I will check out the manufacture and or where we got it from. It came in a 1000ft spool. I have two kinds of that same type at work, one is 22 gauge and the other is 16 gauge, both have four wires with a foil shield and shield wire around the foil, also a fiber as well.

I found a spool of shielded wire at my old job that another guy I worked with was going to just scrap. Fortunately I saved it's life and put it to good use. Hell I even used it multiple times on various sensors on my old harness. I even have some left!

Had an absolute blast this last weekend taking full advantage of the epic snow in CO. Built a tree jib and a couple jumps for snowboarding, used my awesome lights on the legacy to light up the way:

Attached a ski rope to the back of legacy and pulled my friends from behind all the way up Mt. Evans to Echo ski resort where we snuck in at 2am and did a couple runs. So much fun!

I'm still waiting on them, but bought a heated seat kit for the Legacy.

I'm hoping that pulling the seat upholstery up, and putting it back down will be as easy as I think it is....but nothing ever is.

I'm also kicking around buying a heated mirror kit off ebay, but not sure I want to risk playing with the mirrors.

I would just find some heated mirrors that fit our cars and just bolt them on.
