91 5MT SS - Bat out of hell on Red Bull

Are you all sure 1st and Reverse have similar ratios? It always seemed to me that reverse is quite taller than 1st... and that seems to be most cars, not just ours...

Ok, this will not happen again! I wired it into the nuetral safety switch wire at the ecu. B58.10 if I remember correctly, light green/yellow. I just had to sacrfice my hood pin for this(well, I didn't HAVE to, you could rig it up so you have both). Took about 10 minutes once I found out it was at the ecu. I also made note of it on the Astrochart computer program at work if someone else wants to do the same.

Wow... whoever said that you can't move a car when the e-brake is on... o.o;

Occasionally I'll "forget" that it's been on while parked and go into reverse, then wonder why it's a little sluggish and turn it off... but it moves.

...then again, I don't think anything in the e-brake system has been replaced aside from rotors...

Good to hear the problem was fixed, and I admit I got a snicker out of the whole car taking off on its own deal.

haha, I left the e-brake on once and it smelled kinda bad for a little bit because I was burning the partially engaged pads (the ebrake wasn't all the way down).

But yeah, I always leave it in gear and put the ebrake on, as a double caution. I've never had the car roll like that.

I usually put it in reverse, btw. If its on a hill where reverse would move to easily, then I'll put it in first.

Y'all remember this? About a week ago I realized the cop never mailed a copy of the police report to me like he said he was going to. Does that mean it never happened? Yeah right, I wish! Damn lazy cops!

Binford, I had a similar experience with my remote start - since FL is all flat I just parked in neutral with the e-brake on. Also because I knew starting it in gear would probably be a bad thing. So all was well until my father borrows my car and then parks it in gear.

Luckily it was not facing someone's living room in the apartment complex. When I remote started it, came right to life, didn't care that the parking brake was on or anything. It went ahead and powered up over the curb, onto the sidewalk, and proceeded to make its way towards the stairs in the outside apartment hallway. Good thing my father didn't park completely straight -- the right front tire caught on the wall and just started rubbing the hell out if it before I had a chance to squeeze into the car and shut it off. The emergency stop on my remote did nothing, because the car didn't actually think it was "started" - because of the resistance of the e-brake and the curb and such, the starter stayed engaged throughout all of this. As far as the car knew, it was still trying to start.

Good thing I remembered where the emergency shutdown switch was, under the dash.

Crushed the hinge of my front passenger side door, but a friend and I were able to bend it back into place. Somehow, no harm done.

I haven't been using the remote starter since, and won't be until I get a chance to wire in the neutral switch to it's starting logic...

By the way, isn't it just plain bad to let your engine rotate in the opposite direction for which it was designed? That is to say, you park on an uphill slope, and put the car in first gear... and it rolls backwards, turning the engine backwards.... isn't this undesirable?? When I find a hill (rare in this state) and park on it, if I'm facing uphill I leave it in reverse, and if I'm facing downhill I leave it in first gear, so at least the engine's trying to rotate in a proper direction.

I was actually laughing the same night it happened. I had no one to blame but myself, really, and I was more embarrased than pissed off. I mean, the first five minutes or so I was PISSED, but after that I calmed down and laughed at myself. I just try not let too many people know about this little incedent, but other people that already know seem to like sharing this story with everybody. Oh well. Of course, I HAD to tell somebody, but not everybody, you know?

No such a thing as a totally flat and level parking lot, the rainwater has to go somewhere, and you'd be suprised at how high it will pile on a flat surface.

A good rule of the thumb is to ALWAYS use the parking brake, and ALWAYS put the trans in park if auto or the lowest gear if manual.

Spinning engines with wrench on the crank I've never noticed any difference in resistance clockwise vs. counterclockwise. Haven't tried a scooby yet, though.

Just for laughs:
Back in the late 80's I built an 83 Buick Regal with a 455 from a 71 Electra, bored 60 over, lumpitycam, tubular headers, hell it was a torque monster. So mom calls one day..
Her: My car is in the shop can I use one of yours?
Me: Sure you can drive the Buick.

I drop the car with her and didn't think much of it.
3 DAYS LATER, she calls again.
Her: Why is smoke coming out of the back wheels of your car?
Me: WTF????

Yup, she'd been driving around for 3 days with the parking brake full on.
Her:I was wondering why it slowed down so fast when I let off the gas, and do you always use a whole tank of gas in one day?
Me: (shakes head, weeps for transmission)
