Why, whats this suddenly installed in the wagon?

Image

Looks like I now owe Kelly!

Took about 1 hour to install. I would say up to three hours for those not used to tearing into the wiring harness, and not having convenient places to bolt the solenoid and MAP sensor.

Tuning it is going to take some time. I have it set @15 psi, but since its all metric, it confuses the heck out of me. I was trying to get it to boost to 20psi and then taper down, but it would just go to 20 and stay. Bad JuJu. So for now have it set level.

More futzing and it should be sweet. Its awesome to be able to change the boost at the wheel!

How do you like the mod'd 270's?
also what are your plans for a new MAF since your maxing yours out

Still using the pp6. The AVC-R is just a fancy ass boost controller

The modded 270s are sweet.

Gonna dyno with this MAF. I suspect I should be pulling alot of maf signal, which will bring it below 5 volt. I am getting about 12-14 mpg when having fun so I know I am way rich.....

I got to ride in this car today and it was good fun. It's plenty quick but definitely has a lot of tuning potential, too. I can't wait to see where this goes.

Hahaha,

Thomas and I ate an Integra, all the while proving that an EBAY pressure plate ISNT upgraded! hahaha.

I am going to have to pull the engine/drop the tranny soon.... :( As soon as I actually get tuned, the pressure plate is REALLY going to be hating life.

Yep, I fucked it up. I had been doing ALOT of third and 4th gear pulls to get the AVC-R figured out. Occasionally I would have a weird hesitation and what not, but I put it down to the boost fluctuating due the AVCR.....

Nope. The ONE wire I didnt solder (either completly missed it, or didnt solder on purpose ????) was the deflection wire for the PP6. So what happened (so is the only logical explanation) is that I would get on boost and the wire would touch/not touch back and forth, or just not touch period.

So....

Instead of letting the injectors go static and pull 8 degrees of timing, I PULLED a huge amount of fuel and let the stock timing be.

To top it off, I cracked the ringland on the way to Lincoln City (110 miles from home) to pick up my kids. AFTER :furious: the ringland cracked I noticed it was boggy and looked at the laptop for the first time. This is where I discovered the deflection wasnt deflecting....

So I made it to Lincoln City and immedietly found the loose wire. Tightened it and THAT problem solved. But this is where I confirmed the ringland was toast with the breather tube and oil filler PUFFING HARD.

Had dinner and loaded up the kids. Car started weird but started. Stopped on the way out of town for snacks. Two more hard starts.

But I made it home 110 miles! Could have cruised at 100 mph if I wanted, everything ran well as long as I didnt want more than 5psi of boost.

But now its parked.

Ah well, I need to swap the pressure plate. I have another block with JE pistons I will swap in and redo this block as I have two extra 100mm Mahles from the last Reddevil fiasco.

Poop. :sadbanana:

1 hour 20 minutes. Motor out and mounted to engine stand. Manifolds off and stored. Fluids drained.

Andddd...

I predict #2 cylinder from the sparkplug. All the rest looked ok, and the intake runner to #2 was oily as well.

But I am going to have the heads rebuilt regardless, so i will pull all 4 pistons and inspect. Nothing shiny in the oil, so I think I will keep this short block and simply replace the bad piston(s).

And the answer is!

#2 and #4 pistons, hammered.

#1 and #3 in fine shape.

Got the heads out of hock today. Full rebuild was $320, $70 for head gaskets.

Heads are on, now need new flywheel....

Ended up using the flywheel and unsprung disc from Reddevil.... See how it flys. Motor is is and everything is buttoned up except for about 45 mins of work....

Should run tommorrow.

Got everything buttoned up and went to cycle to motor to build oil pressure...... CLICK. ??? Lose ALL power. Check the wiring and fuses. Luckily I have installed a "circuit breaker" where the main fuse goes, and after fiddling with the injector wiring (pretty sure I must have grounded a power lead), all is GO.

So after three 25 sec cycles to get oil pressure, I hook up the injectors and ignitor.

VROOM! Doesnt even turn over three times before it fires!

A little noisy, but I add in water and check everything over. I have driven it to get gas and so only about 2 miles so far. But so far, so good, keep those fingers crossed?

And the heads were shaved a 2nd time, so I can feel the higher compression right off the bat!

250 miles so far! Running great but of course some issues....

LOUD tick.... That comes and goes.... Hoping its a hydraulic lifter. These are twin turbo hydraulic heads that were on Reddevil. And there is vague memory that there was an annoying tick when they were on those builds.....(these heads have been on FIVE separate blocks, not to mention being installed over a DOZEN times!!!).

And my transmission is LOUD! The throwout bearing is BRAND NEW and it is incredibly noisy, so I am suspecting the pressure plate and disc may be making some noise for God ownly knows what/how.... And when driving you hear a LOUD gear noise, in ALL gears, but really bad in 1st thru 3rd because you are going slower so less road noise to drown out the gear noise.

But until the tranny actaully gives up the ghost, I am not going to pull it CAUSE ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!!

Hope to actually tune it soon, running 15.5 boost...

Funny ass boost fluctuations...

So spent the last few days boost leak hunting...

Found 1 and killed it by welding the hold in the stainless IC piping shut....

Found 2 at the BOV, used a bunch of FUJI bond to seal it up.

Found 3 at the IAC, tore it apart and added a bolt that was missing plus new Fujibond....

Now it runs weird.. :? Probably because the IAC leak was a big vacumn leak its been living with for hundreds of miles....

Well, I removed and messed with the IAC TWO MORE TIMES!!!! I think I finally have it licked, as I actaully idle @ 850-900 now.

Since I found "almost" all of my boost leaks AND because the kids were staying the night @ grandmas, I was able to go out to PIR tonight. :)

I limited the boost to about 15 psi out of a $190 EBAY T3/T4 and I had to be gentle with shifting as the clutch would slip...

60' 2.066
1/8th 9.057
mph 81.23
1/4 13.962
MPH 102.40

I was pretty . This is on a seriously ROUGH tune just running rich and retarded until I can get on the dyno. I had 3-4 14.2 runs @ 102 as well, but the clutch just would not hold. I couldnt launch nor speedy shift. Pressure plate needs to be upgraded (although it could just be the clutch isnt adjust properly ).

English Racing in Vancouver was having a dyno day so I sort of randomly showed up.

292 whp 298 torque @ 15 psi, injectors about maxed out. Dyno sheet "maybe" later.

Then 20 miles later I lost the tranny in 2nd gear. Big surprise.

The $50 dyno day turned into a additional $80 tow day with unknown damage to wallet....

Have some LGT gears ready to swap in when I have time. Fingers crossed. Chance its just the clutch disc, just a small chance though....

Uhhhg, dont I effin know it.

I once again got SOOO lucky when breaking.

I had both kids in the wagon with me (just had picked them up from grandmas) and was going to buy a leg of lamb for Easter dinner. I got on it in first, short shifted to 2nd and at about 3500 (I am gussing) the tranny let go. But since I was accellerating AND going slighly downhill, I was able to COAST all the way UPHILL off ramp, THROUGH the effing stop sign and about 300 more feet to a large parking lot!

I am seriously hoping (but betting about 30-1) that the 6puck fell apart..... Hey, a man can dream right?

Started the wagon this morning again just to listen to the noise. It definately DOES NOT sound like gear teeth, more like something is loose and tumbling around.... Fingers crossed its clutch related!!!!!

NOT clutch related.

Motor out in 45 minutes, pretty close to my personal record, if not....
