Drove it. Been neglecting it the past few days because of a recent purchase. Spent a few hours today giving said recent purchase a new paint job :D

Got a new Bosch o2 sensor that just needs a connector on it, a connector I don't have.

I got to redoing and mostly finishing the routing for the wiring of the additional sensors. I also drained out the year plus old gas from the Legacy and put it into the Impreza.

I'll add that this little pump is a lifesaver!
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200407825

I drained the fuel via the drain holes in the bottom of the tank into a 5 gal bucket and then used the pump to transfer to an appropriate gas container.

I told him that he would need to pay for it, since i'm broke, or else he could just give me the keys to his jeep  he said "I'll just pay for it." I would really enjoy having his jeep. I could have some fun with it first, then sell it and upgrade my Subi :-D

Interesting little pump. Works pretty well, huh?

Doesnt gas tend to lose some of its effectiveness after about a years time?

Man that sucks... Alarm is definately a good idea, but it's a pain in the ass to install sometimes.

I'm adding fuel pressure, oil pressure, and oil temperature sensors to tie into my Link ECU.

Here's pictures of the Impreza. It's just a daily driver, nothing special.

Surprisingly, yes that little pump works very well. it made short work of transferring the gas from the 5-gallon bucket to the fuel container, and then from the fuel container to the Impreza.

Yes, what happens with gasoline is that it can tend to evaporate the lighter hydrocarbons off and leave the heaver, somewhat gummier hydrocarbons. Reformulated gasoline is far superior to the older gasoline, so this issue isn't as pronounced with newer gasolines. Also, if the gas has been kept in a pressurized tank, that will minimize the amount of lighter hydrocarbons that have boiled off.

However, since I've got a new motor, I'll put some fresh gas in the Legacy and burn the old gas in the Impreza. I mixed the old gas with a little more than half new gas. I had just under 5 gal of old gas, and had about 6-7 gal of fresh gas. Also, I used some Stabil fuel stabilizer....which may not have done anything since it was used afterwards. I think the Stabil raises the vapor pressure and minimizes the amount of fuel evaporated.

Got an o2 sensor side connector and lucked out and scored a factory driving light switch and the switch holder that replaces the useless pocket. Now I need factory driving lights, and to go back and get the driving light harness.

Man, I wish I would have been able to get my Oil Pressure Gauge to work right.

I couldnt get the pictures of the Impreza to load for some reason.

How much was the pump?

Didnt know they had changed that design. Always heard gas kinda lost it's
usefulness after a year. Glad to know that's not the case so much.

Haha, yeah. Well it's worth a shot I guess. They say you can use it at fill-up.

Haha, that's actually what I used that pocket for was a switch for foglights, which will soon be mounted with my 2 Hella FF1000's and 2 more 500FF's ;) I just mounted the switch inside on the right hand side since the left doesnt leave any room for a switch. You never notice it and it still can hold stuff if you need it to :D

What type of oil pressure gauge were you trying to get setup, and where were you tapping into for the pressure?

The link in my previous post should open a page with other links to the pictures. Are you able to get the main page open? Try again and see if it still doesn't work.

Pump was $20 at Northern Tool, price is listed on their site that I linked to.

Some Sunco cheapo one from Autozone. I hooked it up on the port under the alternator. Maybe
I should have used the one in the rear under the manifold.

The cleaning one works. The rest I couldnt get to work. I must not have clicked on that one the other day.
Man, that thing's nice. I want to make an offroad car out of an OBS. Is it the 2.2? I'm not sure if the 2.2 was
interference or not in 97. The hatch looks a bit shorter than the Legacy's though.

Oops. I'm sorry, I have the memory span of a goldfish :/ That thing's pretty cool though.

Was it an electrical gauge or did it have a small line that ran into the cabin and to the gauge? If it was that kind, you have to bleed the air out of the line in order for them to work properly. I don't personally like those mechanical gauges because you're running oil into the cabin. I prefer the ones with pressure sensors and you then run the wiring into the cabin of the car.

That's weird about the links. They all go to the same server same folder. Did you try them again?

Yes it's got a 2.2liter motor. The hatch is a bit smaller than the legacy and has bit me when trying to carry larger cargo.

It was a mechanical gauge. They're a bit cheaper. It leaked a lot engine side though and
for a while, cabin side.

Yeah, I tried them again. Your bumper one from the Legacy worked though. Just weird :/

I see. Is it interference or non-interference.
Gotcha. I may end up sticking with a Legacy as my other vehicle then.
Just depends on what I find I guess. Thanks man :D

I guess they were interference starting 97. Sucks.

The most reliable source in the world, of course. Wikipedia :P

The SOHC EJ Subaru boxer engines were non-interference engines through 1996, run by a single timing belt driving both cams (both sides of the engine) and the water pump. Because they are non-interference engines, if the timing belt fails, the engine of the models up to 1996 will not be destroyed. The oil pump is driven directly from the crank shaft and the waterpump by the timing belt. All DOHC and 1997-up SOHC EJ engines are interference engines, if the timing belt fails the engine will likely be destroyed or the valves & piston will be heavily damaged.

Use Ctrl+F and search for other data

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_EJ_engine

It's not a big deal as long as you keep up with the timing belt and tensioner.
At least it's SOHC. It's a freakin pain on my RS. Stupid DOHC years :/

The 2.2 in my 97 is a single timing belt and I don't believe it to be any different than the 96. On the SOHC engines the interference comes from valve-to-valve contact. I do not believe there to be any difference in HP between the 96 & 97 Impreza 2.2, which is one way I believe you can differentiate between the non-interference and interference engines. Other way to tell is that the non-interference engines had timing belt change intervals of 60,000 miles, while the interference engines had timing belt change intervals of 100,000 miles.

Hmm, i wonder why they would make the change interval higher for the interference engines.
