yeah, the tape thing can seem kind of tacky i suppose. I really wanted to paint the trim instead, but i didn't trust myself to take off the trim without breaking it, or mask it off well enough, or do a good enough job painting it that it wouldn't flake or chip later. In the end i tried the tape and promised myself that if it lasted at least a year i wouldn't think about painting the trim again.

Yesterday: all my stereo stuff got here finally, so i'll post pictures later. took off the grille again to do some touch up. i was using SEM bumper paint, but it was coming off of the mesh. I think this time i'm going to try plastidip as a top coat.

Here's what I did. I painted my chrome trim with a black out lens tint. Just one or two sprays over it turned it to a dark blackish chrome. I personally really like it. I did it on one of my old fender trim pieces since I replaced the blank pieces with turn signals from the newer Legacy's. The piece is at my parents house, but I'll try and get a picture of it here soon. I think it's a good alternative. As for my chrome on mine, I'm leaving it for now. Doesnt look terrible with the red in my opinion.

Also, I waxed my car for the first time in two years! It's been my off-road car so I haven't bothered til now.

Does anyone know what black paint is on the bottom of these? It looks like plastic paint to be honest. You can see the two points where I hit some stumps covered by grass and it ripped off some of the black. I was thinking of just priming and repainting with black and clearing over it, but it may look weird having one clear spot. Anyone know what type of paint that actually is?

Started raining halfway through though...it's all over the hood in the picture :(

Yeah I'd be curious to see what the tint covered chrome looks like.

cj: Thanks man! It only had 86k miles on it when I got it two years ago. Now it has 126k. It's been around :D

Legacy777: I'll try and get some pictures of it tonight if I can find it in the closet of car parts I have over there. I'm headed over there to paint those two spots black again anyway.

This is what it looks like. Sorry the pics arent great. The Nikon was fogging up due to the cold inside / muggy outside transition.

Keep in mind, when I did this I just sprayed it on there quick and messy. I was just testing it out so it could probably look much better.

Replaced the plugs and fuel filter and removed the turbo chimney in preparation for replacing the turbo, all at work today. Previous owner of the car stated he used OE plugs when he had it tuned up, but the plugs I pulled were bosch platinum single tips in the incorrect heat range... as an added bonus the fuel filter was a cheap aftermarket one too. Got the correct plugs, fuel filter, up and downpipe gaskets and ordered a PCV valve from the dealer for $71. The car runs significantly better, even though the turbo is no longer boosting properly. Once that's replaced (hopefully tomorrow) the car will finally be running right again.

The tint spray really doesn't look too bad! I bet if you scuffed up the chrome a little bit, maybe put another layer on, and got the taping just right, it would be even better.

I was pretty impressed with it. I just sprayed it on there while doing my side markers cause I was bored.
I bet it would adhere better with a good, fine grit sanding. And it'd be easy enough to tape off.
Removing them or black electrical taping them looks a bit too plain for my tastes. I may get around
to doing this soon enough. It's not permanent since paint thinner removes the tint pretty quick. I mean,
I wouldnt let the stuff sit on there, but it tends to rub off easy enough with it from the lights.

Hopefully it goes well and doesn't end up being a giant cluster cuss.

Cause the kit I have has been taken out 4 or so times because half the time only one of the two bulbs will power. But the shop I purchased it at refuses to acknowledge this. So this is the last time. I did my alternator upgrade, changed my battery, made sure everything is grounded right, dielectric greased everything. This time, if it doesn't, there's nothing else i can do.

It could be a ballast thats going bad. The kit that I got in the Impreza lights has the same issue and I'm thinking its the ballast thats causing the problem cause I've swapped bulbs and it doesn't change anything.

I've replaced the ballasts before. Also, switched the sides the components were on. I'm figuring it's a weird electrical issue with my car or that the grounds need to be better. In any case, the store won't take them back and now the warranty is over, so all i can do it try and if they don't work either sell them as they are for nothing or throw them away.

Didn't see it. I saw a honda.

In other news I got a Kartboy 5MT short throw shifter today complete with decent looking bushings which I didn't need for $40 shipped and that's going in when I wake up hopefully. Excited about that. Also got a WRX power steering pump/pulley/remote reservoir and hoses and bracket in case I need to get an aftermarket teflon coated SS high pressure power steering line to replace my kinked factory lines that don't fit properly with DOHC swap. I also got a spare set of factory lines off a junkyard car which I might be able to fit now that my coolant tank is relocated and out of the way....That would make things easier.
