Boost guage... help please, I'm at the end of my rope here!

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

Boost guage... help please, I'm at the end of my rope here!

Post by inzomniac »

Could someone please post a pic of where you've got your boost guage tapped into! I've moved the thing twice, and now I'm thinking that it's still in the wrong place. I'm still learning with turbo cars... also it SHOULD read vacume under idle right??? Because mine isn't?!?! This is confusing the hell out of me, and the only thing I can think of is trying a new spot for the guage (again) and if that dosn't work... going hunting for a leak

ANY help would be greatly appreciated here!

Thanks in advance.

Anywhere that comes off the intake manifold should work fine. The vac hose for the BOV is what mine is connected to, it comes off the intake on the back side, between the TB and the coolant tank and runs to the BOV.
If your gauge has vac it should read it (some only give positive pressure)
sorry no pic but it should be easy enough to find :) make sure your T fitting is tight and I would run a rubber hose not the hard one in the kit, mine kinked and broke :(

It's an autometer guage, so it does read vac. But mine only reads vac as soon as the throttle has been opened, until then it's sitting at 0. Right now I'm running it off of that little hose that comes right off of the intake manifold, on the top side of the manifold... it'd be right in the middle of the plastic cover if you left that on your car.

Try hooking it up to the hose nipple on the intake manifold to the left side of the manifold (when looking at the engine in front of the car). There should be an intake hose attachment on one of the "spider legs" of the manifold. I just t-ed the line of of there. Works fine.

So at idle with no gas you're not reading vac? Hmmmm . . . It should read vac at idle and at low throttle until the boost threshold.

Sounds like you have it plumbed into a connection that is before the throttle plate, so you're not reading intake manifold vacuum. I'm not sure about your description of where you're plumbed in... can you snap a pic?

no place to host...

it's the little hose that comes off of the throttle body, comes in from the left horizontaly and the little fitting turns 90 deg down into the throttle body.

I'm not sure where in the TB that comes from, try the BOV line or where boostjunkie has his. Make sure all the fittings are tight, if it still doesn't work you got me. :D

Mine is tapped into the same location as Boostjunkie described. This hose, I believe, goes to the pressure exchange solenoid. I remember reading about a "trick" you can do to this hose get a few extra psi before fuel cut. I never did it because I didn't want an inaccurate reading to my guage. Something to consider before tapping into this hose.

I'm pretty sure that's the vac line that leads to the dreaded purge valve. just try relocating it to another place. either off the line that feeds the MAP or to the BOV line. I personally like taking readings off the MAP line cause then you get to see EXACTLY what the ECU is seeing.
