FACTORY Service manuals

Post by DNA_Man »

Here's the lowdown from TMC Publications for the 90 Legacy (this
_could_ be vastly different for another model car, but most likely it
will be similar in cost):

6 Main Volumes (general, engine, tranny, wiring, body, suspension +
steering + brakes + etc.): $225 total.
ABS Supplement: $20 (I don't have ABS so I assume I don't need this
one)
Legacy Supplement: $30 (The TMC guy said he's not sure what this is
about, could be for wagons, could be supplemental stuff for a
particular trim package, or just about god knows anything else.)

They have a web site at www.tmcpubl.com. Their phone number is 410-
367-4490. I talked to the guy there and he was really nice and really
helpful. They supply factory service manuals for almost any car he
said. In my case, he said I could order only one of the six volumes
if I wanted to, but there was no gaurantee that it would be complete,
and no guarantee that any particular system in the car would be
covered completely by any single book. He said basically the content
is divided the same way they divide up chickens to make "nuggets."
The books he's talkin about are the same books my mechanic showed me
in his shop, and they're really detailed. These are the books that
are required by the SCCA for Rallying in Production classes. Still,
even if you were going to build an Open Class rally car I would think
you'd want these books anyway.
