WRX Rims and lugnuts

Post by georryan »

Silly question--

Will my stock lugnuts work on WRX rims? Like I just bought some WRX rims can I just change them over and use my current lugnuts?

Your sig says you have a Sport Sedan, so yes.

The acorn-style stock lug nuts used for alloy wheels on any Impreza/Legacy/Forester/Outback/Baja/whatnot are identical.

The lug nuts for steel wheels are different, however -- they're open ended.

The acorn lug nuts are meant only for alloy wheels and the open end ones are meant only for steel wheels. I'm not sure what the functional difference is.

I think its just the styling difference. My 91 LS came with alloy wheels, but it had (well, was supposed to have) center caps over the lug nut parts. They were the open ended kind like on the steel wheels. Just a thought.

oh crap... Ive been using my steel wheel lugnuts on wrx 16's. I looked at the lugnut seat on the rim and the lugnut, the angle seemed close enough... hope Im not damaging my rims. Ive had the wheels on and off a couple times to do a cv and didnt notice any damage, so???
I love to case.

It's quite possible that the difference is entirely cosmetic. I don't know. Or maybe the acorn lug nuts protect the end of the lug stud from the elements, while the open-ended lug nuts rely on the hubcap to perform that job. Image

You may want to invest in a set of acorn lug nuts just in case... If you can't find any at a decent price I think I have a spare set that I've been hanging on to for a rainy day; let me know if you might want them.

Its okay! I used steel wheel intended open lugs on WRX take offs that had black spray paint on them for a while, I actually liked them better than the stock WRX lugs.
