Well my Legacy was recently taken out by another driver. Last
htursday a driver tried to make a turn off a 3 lane highway from the
far left lane...In he own words on the police report, the gold car
(my legacy) "got in the way". So hes screwed and so is my car...I'm
looking at a 95 awd legacy at this local dealer. Its white with a 5
spd. What engines wore availible in 95 and would this be a decent
starting point for a sporty buildup?

The only engine available stateside was the EJ2.2 but that is my
favorite anyway a lot is available for it and you can do just about
anything

Legacy - RIP
In '95, unfortunately, only the 2.2 liter engine was
available in the Legacy, in '96, however the 2.5 liter
was offered in the GT model, as well as the Outback
model. Keep in mind, however, in '96 the GT was only
mated to a auto trans., the Outback offered either
transmissions. In '97 the GT was offered in a std.
trans. The '96 2.5 liter produces 155 horses while as
the following year produced 165 horses(the last
statement may be wrong, it may have been '98.) In my
opinion, you could be more successful in a 2.5 liter
and preferably one that was at the 165 horses.
Hopefully that sheds a little light on your
possibilities.

Legacy - RIP
one issue to be aware of.
97 2.5 motors are notorious for blown head gaskets, or having them going bad on you. It was a poor design in how the head gaskets were setup. They supposedly have a new head gasket design to help eliminate the problem. CCR engine Inc in Colorado rebuilds subie engines and have also done something to help them last, but they've seen more 2.5's out 97's. Their site is http://www.ccrengines.com/

Legacy - RIP
If it were me I'd be looking for a 93 turbo wagon (or sedan). Or a early model 2-door Impreza with the 1.8L (ostensibly so I could rip it out and throw a 2.0L in).
Or I'd hold out for a few more months and buy a Ginger (scooter thingy - Dean Camen's invention).

Legacy - RIP
Well Sambo was about the closest to what my opinion
would be. I say look for a 94 Turbo Legacy. It's the
2.2 but the hard ting is that they didn't make alot of
them that year. The NA 2.2 is a awesome engine but
nothing beats a turbocharged engine and taking any
Subie engine such as the EJ25 or EJ22 and doing an
aftermarket turbo on it is extremely stessful on the
engine. Just be patient and find a car you like don't
just settle pn something. Hmm..

Legacy - RIP
I am looking for a car that i like predominantly. Among other cars
im looking are Honda Preludes, VW Jettas, Subaru Legacies, and (my
favorite so far) a 96 Nissan 240sx. I only spoke about the Before
because I figured I'd end up taking a beating in her for mentioning
anything cept a Subaru. One other car i was looking for but can't
really find locally was a Mistubishi Eclipse GSX. They seem pretty
rare.
