Anyone for a cold air intake

Post by milehial2000 »

I did some tests and found that there is almost a 90 degree difference
in the under hood temp compared to the under fender temp. This was
done on a warm day in medium traffic. I think that I could have picked
up about 5hp with a cold air system according to the seat of the pants
dyno, at least it was very noticable. I have a source for parts, a
complete shop, and also can get some very nice fiberglass reinforced
teflon lined flex tube but in 10' lengths and expensive. Anyone??

Anyone for a cold air intake

Post by ssspoon@aol.com »

On Sat, 06 Jul 2002 13:53:56, we received an important offer from Alan
Croxford, owner of automotive aftermarket specialty IWTU Electronics;

From: "milehial2000" <acroxford@hypermall.net>
Subject: Anyone for a cold air intake

Al follows with a short purpose and description

tests and found that there is almost a 90 degree difference

I cannot emphasize how encouraging this is from somebody of the background
and caliber of Mile Hi Al. We have heard how overseas aftermarket equipment
designed for the Legacy may not quite work as well as we would like on our
cars. Al has already developed a (true) cold air system that uses and
enhances our existing fender inlet. I have been bugging him to put a kit
together.

Al you already know my answer

If yer talking about making a cold-air intake for the 2.2 Legacy
Turbo, yes I'm very interested. Everything I've seen/tried for this
car so far has been disappointing. I am in Denver, BTW.

I am in Denver also. It seems like more than a few people are
interested in this project and with enough interest we might be able
to do something. I already have a intake on my car but there are a
few things about it that could be improved on. I am contacting a few
possible sources for a replacement intake boot and plan on sending
mine tape, glue, and all to any that may be up to the task. After that
is acompished I have all else that is needed.

I've got one that JC sent me for testing, before promptly going
under, so all the improvements it needed never were addressed.

I'm just over the hill in Utah, so if you want someone to test it,
i'm game.

I remember that one you had some trouble installing it didn't you? I
have one that is somewhat like it but it went on fairly well. I
really don't see how anything could be made to replace the intake
boot for a reasonable cost unless there was a demand for a large
quantity of them but the rubber boots from subaru are no prize and it
would be nice to find an alternative.
