struts and springs
Posted: Wed Jul 10, 2002 9:05 pm
just to let you know i went through this last year with my 90awd
wagon..i bought a set of agxs from tire rack[best price that i found]
and they were listed as legacy specific which pretty much covers 90-
98 legacys.also ordered subaru strut mounts from them[front only] and
the rear strut mounts from a local dealer..the fun started when i
tried finding springs....just beware that the 90-91awd,na or
turbo, sedan or wagon, all have tapered rear springs..the strut
tower, that is the body of the car is also smaller...which means that
all of those nice h&r springs will not fit. there is not enough space
for the spring hat to seat on the mounting location. i did finaly buy
a set of wagon specific mrt springs that are tapered for the rear,
every thing bolted right up without any problems. in fact i recently
took them off the wagon and put the mrt/agx setup on my 91 turbo
sedan, again they bolted right in..this is just until the new
whiteline springs come in that i ordered for the turbo,to be paired
with gr2's. as i related to someone else in this group the spring
rate is different between sedans and wagons and i can tell beacuse
the ride in the t-sedan is what i would call jouncy..i also tried the
different settings on the agx's and they do work incredibly well ,i
just don't feel i am going to need that many settings. i would rather
do the sti mounts front and rear and go with beefier roll bars in
addition to all of those little whiteline bits that reallllyyyyy make
a big difference in the handling.. oh and if you question the
interchangeability of legacy suspension parts, my 90wagon has a '98
rear end under it....whew! dlm.
