Hood scoop fitment

Post by John D »

Anyone know if a 2002 wrx hoodscoop will fit bc-bf's without a problem?
Would it be an easy install? What about a 97-99 legacy gt hoodscoop?

john d..depends on what you call without any problem. i got the scoop
and vents off a impreza rs and the bentup hood, have repainted the
pscs and laidout with a pattern for the opening on our 91turbolegacy
hood. you can cut just about anything but do it with extra fine
metalblade in a jigsaw or fine cutoff wheel in small air cutter. once
i have the openings cutout i will try to post pics of opening and of
pattern for cutouts.fortunately i have a spare hood off my 90 legacy
to practiceon! let me know if you have any other ?'s.. david

That was a good question about the wrx exhaust... there forsale
everywhere now!

About the hood scoop. When I was talking about fitting without a
problem... I mean that Im very hesitant about chopping up metal... I
don't really have any metal skills. I've never really tried on anything.
I'm not really sure how it connects and all but the way I was picturing
it was that I would take out my current hood scoop and lay the wrx one
over it. Kind so the flange under the hood. But after reading your post
it doesn't sound like that will work? Do you think it would be easy
enough knowing my background?

I have been considering the same thing for a while now too. But I
don't know if they are an exact match even though dimensionally they
look similar (except for height anyways). If the WRX one is larger
then cutting will be required, but if it's base is smaller then
filling the gap will be required. If I go ahead with this mod (which I
pretty sure I will), I'll use glass cloth and resin as opposed to
bolting it on. It'll be much more rigid that way and farr less
complicated

john d i know what you mean bout cutting on hood! the thing to do is
to make a good pattern from a scoop or find a hood from an rs or wrx.
the placement is almost exactly where our early legacy scoops are and
the cut out is just wide enough to to cover the original opening
width and from front to back is no problem. use paperboard to make a
pattern with or heavy tracing paper. then remove your scoop and lay
it out. when i do the cutting i will try to post pics. my goal is not
to have any glass or bondo work to do, just metal and panel adhesive.
oh bytheway, i dont have any great metal experience either but a lot
of jigsaw and fabrication experience...sometimes ya just gotta play
around with to find out how it will work because even if you screw up
you will learn from it..more later
