When did the change from Japanese to Indiana built occur?

Post by ciper »

I know that early legacy are from japan, but I also know that at least some of the 93 legacy are from indiana.

Did a time exist when cars came from both locations? Does an easy way to tell exist, besides looking for the sticker in the rear window?

Yes, a time did exist when Legacy's were manufactured in both countries. To know where your car was made just look at the VIN number. If it starts with a J, then it was made in Japan. If it starts with a 1, then It was made in the states, in Indiana. All Legacy Turbos were made in Japan, some NA's were made in the states, but not many. I have yet to see an american built Legacy, and I have seen many. You mentioned a way to tell where they are made is by some sticker? Where is it and how does it look?

unfortunately my 93 was made at the isuzu plant. You can also tell if it was made in the states by the SIA sticker in the back window. Wish my 93 was not made there cause all little stupid things are different then the jap built ones.

I know a lot of the wiring is very different between the US-made and Japan-made Legacies, to the point that my 1992 factory service manual has separate wiring diagrams for some systems.
