Ok, I gotsta co the brakes in the next week or two...so the big question is, what do I do...I on rare occasion will make my current brakes fade. I ussually warp subaru rotors...So I was planning on getting mintex pads (will not fade) and cryo treated rotors, cause the mintex pads kill rotors. And hopefully some SS brake lines. But the mintex pads make tons and tons of nasty brake dust. Does anyone know of any decent pads that won't fade or is real unlikely to...that doesn't create tons of black brake dust?!?!
Mucho Gracias!
Micum
Its real hard to justify other pads, mintex are baked in a kiln or something, off gasing...so when heated under breaking, they have already off gased all they can and won't any longer, so no brake fade...
Mintex pads, or is there a great pad w/o the brake dust.

You're not actually warping rotors. In most cases, you have DTV (disc thickness variation) It's possible to have warped rotors, but most of the time you don't. Assuming someone has not cranked down on the lugs with an impact wrench.
Also, you can get pad material deposit building up on the rotors unevenly, which will give you brake shudder.
I'm currently running mintex 1155 pads, WRX brakes, cryo-treated/slotted subaru OEM rotors in the front.
Personally I have had better luck with OEM rotors then anything else.
If there's one I can say to do, it's to cryo-treat the rotors. I have been absolutely amazed at what this does for the rotors wear characteristics & longevity.
I was told too that the mintex pads dust like a mofo.....but honestly.....they don't dust any more then the metal masters I had before hand. I don't know if has anything to do with the cryo-treatment or slotting......
You may want to check out a set of pads from carbotech, called the bobcats. They've been getting pretty good reviews. The specs on them seem very good, and I believe they're less then mintex.

The whole baking thing mintex does. I think more pad manufacturers do that now. I might be wrong.....not 100% sure.

havent' used them. I've heard good things about them too. If I would've heard about them before I did all my brake work, I probably would've gone with them. Their mid-ranged priced rotors have a good setup to allow venting from the front-inner side of the rotor too.

I've got WRX calipers and pads.
The calipers are essentually the same size piston as the turbo legacy, but the caliper bracket may be different. I don't think you could put WRX pads on the turbo legacy because rotor is smaller.

WRX pads and calipers on Legacy
How hard is it to install the WRX stuff on your Legacy?
Calipers and Pads, right? The pads alone will not fit on my stock system, as you seemed to indicate?
I have a 93 Legacy Wagon, and would like to do the fronts and rears... can I go with WRX hardware all they way around?
Thanks for the help.
Matt

All you have to do is unbolt the caliper & bracket, take rotors off, put new stuff on, and bleed brakes.
Don't bother swapping stuff from the WRX onto the rear, their setup is the same as yours. If you want to upgrade things, upgrade to the 11.4" rear solid disc found on the newer legacies.
Upgrading to the front WRX brakes alone will upset bias.
