I'm out, guys...

Post by entirelyturbo »

Okay, I've had it. My car's AWD is seizing or something, the tranny's probably shot. Even though I baby it and give it every part it has ever needed, it just won't give up. I spent $400 putting new tires on it today since I have heard of the AWD getting pissed off at uneven tirewear front/rear. So I'm broke, and can't fix my car anymore...

I give up, guys. I've had it. And even though I have mentioned before that I promised to keep my car, I'm gonna break it. I used to love my car to death. But since I have put all my money, time, and energy into it, this is what I get in return.

Now if I were 40 years old and loaded silly, it might be different. I'd probably have an Outback for a daily, while I screwed around with my BC. But I'm only 19 with little money to burn. I have too much other stuff going in my life to be concerned with a $1500 12-year-old car.

I am really going to miss this forum. You guys are absolutely great! I can proudly say that there is more intelligence in the 30 or so active members here than through all of NASIOC or I-club. You guys know more about Subarus, from the EA81's of yesterday to the STI's of today, than anyone else on the Internet. I just hope that there will be others out there who will know as much about my next car as you all do about our BC-BF's.

So, ironically ending on post 555 , I shall wish you all happy Subaru motoring ahead for years to come!

Aw, man!

You can still drive the car! Just remove the rear driveshaft or something!

It wouldn't be that hard to drop in a 5MT from a junkyard. I bet we could find one for a couple hundred dollars. If I were in Orlando I'd volunteer to help you swap them...

Come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Sigh. Honestly, I understand where you're coming from. Unfortunately you seem to have just run into some bad luck. It might really be best to just part the car out and save the money for another car when you can.

Don't let it sour you on BC/BFs in general; there are plenty still on the road and there will be for a long time.

One spin in a sport sedan and i'd bet his story would straighten up real quick. But tranny trouble is one of the few things i do really worry about in my car...

Michael,

I hear ya man. For the point in your life you're at, and your monetary situation I admire the fact you know when jump when the ship is sinking.

Not sure if you're planning on selling the car, or if you could even get some money for it, but for a daily car, get something that you don't have to worry about. If you don't have to selll the subie, you can play with it when you want, and tell it to f off when it pisses you off.

That's my semi-plan. You just can't deny the fact that a 10-13 yr old car is not going to have issues. If you have the knowledge, time, place, and money to fix them, it's not quite an issue, but if any of those are out....then it can be extremely frustrating.

The "AWD Jamming" issue you are describing is just what i cured on my little SS. change the Center-diff-Visco-Coupling-Assy and problem solved.

i'm sure you can find one cheap in a junkyard or auto-parts, it's the same part from any subaru impreza-legacy-forester from 1993 to 1998. The lifespan of the part is about 160000miles.

Good luck !
