Did anyone notice?

Well, we're on the new server now. Downtime was a few hours, but not nearly as bad as i thought it might be. The big deal was that we didn't have to change nameserver info this time, which made the change almost instant.
The new box isn't much of a step up from the old one, in terms of hardware, but it's still nice. We're running a pair of 1GHz P3s on an ASUS CUV4X-D with 768MB SDRAM, a couple of fast IDE drives and Slackware in a Chenbro 2U case at the new colocation. It should prove to be a much nicer, and hopefully faster and more reliable solution.

Those aren't that good, I have one of those sitting in my closet
Whatever it is, thanks a bazillion Dave!

Would any monetary donations from us rabid post-whores benefit the cause?

It doesn't take a lot of horsepower to run a webserver, really, and we run a good amount of stuff on this box. Most of the time it just sits, probably bored with the lack of real stuff to do
Again, i appreciate the offer of donations, but for the time being we don't believe it will be necessary. If the situation changes i'll let the board know.

Dave,
One thing I've noticed is that the board sometimes hangs while posting. I've noticed there has been more double posts, which would probably indicate others are having the same issues.

Yes, and ALOT of time outs
Something like error executing command, time exceeded 30 seconds.
Also some blank pages, you submit then get a solid white page.

Out of curiosity, what was the suspected cause?

The new setup had an issue with the default email-notification parameters, more specifically, it wasn't working. For some reason, people like to be informed by email when there's a new post in a thread, which is bizarre
Those people having the problem were most likely in this small and odd club, and setting it up properly vanquished the dreaded blank screen.

Hehe... I used to do that until I started getting twice as much mail from the BBS as all other places combined. :)

Hmm... That's not the case. I got the blank screen a couple times, and I didn't have email notification turned on.
But it is possible that the email notification stuff was still responsible, since every thread subscriber gets an email whenever a post is made.

The latter is probably what was causing the blank screens for people not chosing the email notification. At the time the message is submitted, it probably handles that task, and the process was timing out.
Anyways, it's fixed, back to normality
