Will stock 98 BD GT exhaust fit?

Post by entirelyturbo »

I might have claimed stake on a very good deal for a 98 Legacy GT catback exhaust, will it fit? I don't mind modding a few things if I have to...

The hangers are wrong, the pipe is too short.

I tried one from a sedan on a wagon, so this may have had an effect but the tips where really far from the bumper edge when one of the hangers was connected.

ciper, you tried a stock one? Where are the hangers wrong, and you say the midpipe is too short? And you're saying the tips set too far back behind the bumper?

I don't mind having a muffler shop adding some length to it, it won't be visible...

The purchase all depends on shipping costs, so we'll see...

I should double check exactly what muffler I used. Now that I think about it I may have borrowed an impreza unit... It was a stuck unit though. I could have bolted it up but the pipe was too short. I could have connected the rear hanger but the muffler wasnt as long.

This exhaust is a REALLY good deal, so I have no problem adding some pipe in the middle somewhere to make it fit.

I'm pretty sure that if a Stromung exhaust can fit such a wide range of models (Legacy and Impreza) then I'm sure some interchangeability between stock exhausts is possible with modwork...

It seems that the tips on the BD/BF Legacies are really long. I recently hung an '04 WRX muffler on my BF and it hung fine, and bolted up to the mid-pipe, but the tips were about 2-3 inches short from sticking out clear of the bumper. I also compared my GC chassis Stromung muffler and it appeared the same thing would be an issue...
