legacycentral bbs

My book says to disconnect the one wire plug harness under the lower dash panel. Turn on key and wait for trouble codes to flash. If the connector is not disconnected the CEL will flicker. Well I cant get any codes and if I connect the the one wire harness, I dont get a flickring CEL. Is there something else that I have to do to get the codes? Stumped in Pa.
