i found another used legacy w/ 90k fora good price, $200 less than the blue legacy w/ 120k. only problem is that its burgendy and im not a huge fan of that color. so how much would it cost to have the car painted a nice black color. and would it look as good as a factory paintjob? any info would be appreciated.

Flat black is cheap and you can do it in your driveway - dries too fast for shit to get in it. Gloss black if you want it done well will likely be a couple grand and I'd highly suggest getting some of that clear adhesive vinyl they put on some new cars to protect the front from sand and rocks.

Seriously, just a little creativity with some paint would look great. My '84 sedan was maroon and I painted the center of the hood (bulge) flat black as well as the trunk and outlined the boundary with thin silver pinstriping. I used this indestructable appliance epoxy paint. Or for your first car just leave it alone - cops will bother you enough as it is (take it from me, my first Subaru had bogus rally shit and teeth in the grille with crosshairs on the hood). I'd personally be more upset about having the beige interior, but that's me. Save the money and take some women out to eat.

Next time you see an older car whose paint job is not factory but done VERY well, ask him where it was done. And here's the kicker: don't be surprised if the price is a bit high...
I already know who's doin my Legacy this summer, he has a Legacy Turbo that he switched from black to white. Looks better than factory. I will probably end up giving him in the range of $2000, but the car will have no dents, have good-as-factory paint, and be one of the most beautiful N/A cars on this board

I spent $3200 this summer which included welding new metal for the fenders and rockers and all dents pulled plus a new hood.
I think my Electric Barbarella's the most beautiful one on the board!

you shouldn't even debate buying the car thats hella low miles, well depending on the year. Still its got a lot of life left in itSo long as it doesnt need major repairs you should get it

A paint job will be almost equal to the value of the car. Get the color you want if that is such a big concern. Most paint shops hate having to change car colors because it is considerably more difficult to do than a mere re-paint. Make that to switch colors and look good. Your engine firewall, strut towers, engine bay, underneath the fenders, and trunk won't match, the door jambs HAVE to be done... this means pulling off lots of trim and VIN badges, etc. It's a pain. I think Carly Simon wrote a song about this kind of situation...

If you really dislike burgundy that much, dont buy it, but seriously, I'd get it. Unless it has a blue or tan interior, hop on it!
When I get my car painted, yes, I'd rather have something other than red(black), but for the price, i could get a better paint job, with something interesting thrown in, like a pearl, or stronger metallic fleck.
My first car was a crx, and i wasnt picky about color(bought primer grey) and loved it, but knew that the first thing i wanted to do was paint it. If i could go back, I'd have gotten the color that i wanted, but alas, I'm a girl.
