Right Rear Quarter Panel Removal

Post by J-MoNeY »

Me and a tree had a little disagreement when I was rallying, and the tree won and now my right rear (the gas cap one) is messed up beyond repair. I need to replace it, but it looks spot welded. Has anyone ever removed one that could give me some tips on replacing the outer skin of the panel?

Thats major body work to get it off, and replace. The rear quarter is spot welded in. You have to drill out all the spot welds holding the rear quarter on. Remember these cars are unibody, so the actual rear quarter is a weight bearing part of the chassis, so it has to be welded back in very well. Unless you have prior experience I wouldn't be taking it off yourself, unless you have a watchful eye looking over your shoulder.

I believe that's double-skinned also, so there are inner panels that will likely be messed up, too.

i had mine pulled. its single layer, behind the carpeting. Same place :)
cost me 400 to have it pulled and primered. some day i will paint it. I looked into having a new one welded in. 2000 bucks. I would rather find a nice chassis to put my turbo motor and interior in to, then sell all the parts i didnt use. probably break even.
