A little help for the new guy please...(rear speaker shelf)

Okay, I blew the crap out of my stock rear speakers while enjoying my new cd changer. I took a quick look around the trunk and rear seat, and can't quite figure out how to get the back seat out of the way and get to the speakers.

Can someone please take the time to walk me through the process? It's so friggin' cold outside here, I really don't feel like struggling with trying to figure it out.

There are two bolt on the bottom part, 14mm i think. One you get those out the cushion pulls out. There are then 3 on the rear part again 14mm i think.

There are 2 12mm bolts for the 3rd brakelight that you need to take out from inside the trunk. the rear deck panel will then jsut pull out and you should be able to get to the speakers.

in my 96 the seats fold down with a strap attached to the latch. The strap was buried so deep in the seat crevice it took like 2 screwdrivers and too much effort just to fish them out. I don't know about 94, if you look from the trunk and there are these latches that have a lock switch then they definately fold down.

I didn't even have to remove my seats to do this. Just get a ratchet or a really stubby screwdriver to get the screws by the window and get at the wires through the trunk.

you need to take the rear deck lid off.....not sure if you can do this without taking the rear seat out.....if you can....you don't need to take the seat out. I personally would to make sure I don't break anything.

you're being told to do way too much, thawa has it right. All you do is pop off the speaker grille, and look inside, there is 3 screws holding the speaker in, use a short screwdriver to undo these, and the speakers come out.

Thanks guys (and girls). I went the quick route and popped off the covers.
a small ratchet worked great to loosen the screws. I just had to be careful not to damage the speakers with the clips while putting the covers back on. Sounds good now.

Thats why you should have a wagon. Just pop the speaker covers off and remove two 10mm bolts and the speaker bucket comes right out.

When you fold the seats down in a sedan they dont lay flat and you end up putting ALOT of stress on the brackets. On a wagon the front of the seats are held in place with two hooks on the bottom of the seat cushion. You could put hundreds of pounds on them without problem (Ive tried).

Why do you need 6x9 in the rears? They are just fillers anyways. Id spend more time adding an underseat sub and tweeters while replacing the door speakers.

Speaking of under seat subs...

What size is the speaker and what wattage is the amplifier for those WRX under seat subs? I've been considering getting one, and I want to know what to compare it to.
I'm assuming you can just plug in low level inputs and hook it up to some power (and ground...and remote turn on) for an install.... Right?

Vrg3: Your saying that 4 inch speakers are unable to while 6x9 can? I dont agree. You just havnt found the right speakers.

Bosco: The WRX+ unit is a 120 watt panasonic. The older models are 80 watt. I know someone on ebay who will sell the older model for 90 shipped and its brand new.

The 80 watt model is worth the money. Both sound good, are stealth and doesnt take up any interior space.

I personally use the 120 watt model. I have the gain and frequency turned all the way down.
Make sure you get the harness with it. The bracket that comes with is garbage, throw it away. I mounted mine with some high strength zip ties directly to the bottom of the seat. Sound quality improved, foot clearance is better and the passenger gets an ass massage

the whole more speaker in the rear thing bugs the crap out of me....everyone does it......when you go to a concert....do you turn around so the music is coming from behind you.....noooo.....you sit facing the music....but heh.....to each is his/her own....

I hate that!!! It seems like IE does it a lot to me.

It's certainly easier to make larger speakers perform better at lower frequencies, isn't it? I don't fully understand all the physics behind audio dynamics, but I thought that unless you had a well-designed resonating chamber a small speaker wouldn't produce good bass.

I think for me part of it is that, since the front speakers are in the doors, my leg and the passengers' leg (if there is a passenger) absorb some of the sound and it gets weird.

I like the larger rear speakers because when i sit in my car, usually i am sitting forward, and my ears are directional. If i turn sideways, its obvious that the rears are louder, but then, thats what fade is for.

My 6.5"s in front can hit lower frequencies than my 6x9"s, but the 6x9's can hold low frequencies with more volume.

I just installed the 80 watt version under the drivers seat of a WRX wagon with zip ties. Works great! Plenty of sound even from the smaller unit.
