If you order a stud kit from APS, make sure they`re the ones for the 2.2 and not the 2.5 (which are too short.) Another week....sigh....before the car is fired. Being in Ca. with our strict emissions laws has forced me to break the engine in/get smogged as an NA engine. Adam (of I-Speed) is picking up a stock intake and injectors + a stock exhaust from the boneyard to get me through the check. I had a chance to look at the heads and the short block and am very impressed with what I see; it can never run soon enough!! After about 2K on the engine, we`ll bolt on the turbo exhaust, the parallel-fed intake, the correct MAF and off I go. Until I get my Unichip, I`m going to run approx. 8psi off the internal wastegate. The necessary NA/smog parts will be stored at Adam`s new, larger shop for the every-2-year check. Also, I found that my initial oil fitting on top of the turbo was`nt restricted enough to not overly-lube the turbo and take too much oil pressure from the engine. The correct fitting for the oil and special banjo fittings for the cooler lines will solve that. My turbo feels coked up so Adam is going to see if he has a way to free the wheel up; if not, Hello Disco Potato (GT28RS). BTW, check out the article on WRX engine swaps into any Subie in the March issue of Sport Compact Car; they`re done by Adam at I-Speed. I feel very fortunate that I have someone so qualified to help make sure my ongoing engine saga does`nt turn out to be a disaster. How much would it cost to put on a Garrett? Are there relatively cheap exhaust that fit the flange or are they custom? I know there are expensive kits, but I was thinking of getting this same turbo (if I get a damn job in Bush's remarkable economic recovery) with just the up and down pipes. Would I need special brackets to attach the turbo to the engine or would the stock ones fit?

I saw your other post about the studs, but am unfamiliar with your build. Are you talking about stock heads on your EJ22? I ask because Ciper and I are doing diferent things. He is using stock heads, I am likely using SOHC EJ25 heads. Any insight would help...

I`m using the stock turbo heads that have been ported, cc`d and set up with roller rockers, titanium retainers, stainless int. and ex. valves + the combustion chamber has been thermo-coated like the forged piston tops. This was done to protect the motor from high boost, 91 octane gas and metanol/water injection. For the street and not revving over 7000k, I think it`s the best alternative. As for the turbo(s); I have a custom up/down pipe set-up tied in with the Borla headers. The brackets were custom made for my car by Robert at www.forcedairtech.com. I now have a GT28R roller bearing turbo good for approx. 290 HP with my current set-up (approx 2.4 liters of EJ22T). If it`s too coked up, I`ll purchase a GT28RS roller bearing turbo good for approx. 320 HP. They`re both very streetable and spool very quickly ( by 3000k). This should work extremely well with my JMO stall convertor and 3:90`s. If, in the future, I become crazier, I`ll add a 75 shot of nitrous to be used in 3rd and 4th gear only. Time will tell....Rod
