CV Joint popping

I am having problems with my CV joints. I have been for some time. Last week, I brought it to a shop ('rents are paying for it, otherwise I would have swapped them myself) to get the driver's side half shaft replaced. They end up replacing the passenger side one instead. I go back, and get them to replace the driver's side one as well (for free).

2 days later, I'm getting the same popping noise at a different spot (turning right instead of left). I bring it back in. They tried 4 different sets in it and each set made a different sound at a different point.

Why is this? I can understand if it didn't change, but EACH SET gave a different noise.

I'm going to bring it back in tomorrow so they can try genuine Subaru axles in it (still not charging me anything) and try to figure out what the hell is causing that noise.

Anyone here had similar problems?

Sounds like your mechanic is using inferior quality replacements.

What year/model/tranny. I know the older Loyale's had R/L specific drive axles on the front, I had a friend who had a shop mess it up. My 92 MT are good for either side, what about the earlier Legs? If your Mechanic accidentally fixed the wrong one, they very well could have used the wrong parts to begin with. This also means it’s possible they used the wrong parts twice. Or, only those old Subes had different axles and you can ignore me entirely.

I've never heard of any Scoob having R/L specific driveaxles. My XT shares the same 4-lug hub design and overall chassis design as pretty much every older Subaru made back to the 70's, and both axles will work on either side...

Yea, I could be wrong. The guy I know with the loyale is not too mechanically handicapped, but he could have told me wrong. They still very well could have put the wrong axles in though. Even if all axles are symmetrical they might have different lengths for different models over the years. Do subes use similar axles for other cars. I know for certain Nissans have different front axles because they like torque steer and we like to share drive train parts with them.
