If you go to legacycentral.org he used the spt short shifter. I think you need an adapter of some sort to make it work. There is a guy called Richard Buckner he is the parts guy at Royal Moore subaru in Oregon. He knows how to make the WRX shifter linkage work.

Better, although more costly, option. B&M makes a short shifter for our legacies. You can find it at the site in my signature. Its Teagues Auto in NC. It runs $199.

Is there any place to get all the replacement bushings? A short shift would be nice but I don't consider it a necessity. Knowing nothing about the shift linkage... is it even worth trying to replace bushings? Or is it better just to put another one in?

To answer your question, Brian, more work than I think it's worth...

So just to clerify, the wrx shifter doesn't bolt on easily? I have a chance to get a wrx stock 5 speed shifter at a good price and was hoping it would work. I checked that other post and it said something about the knob not fitting. I just got a wrx aliminum momo knob and it fit fine on my legacy turbo shifter. Are the legacy turbo shifter the same as the n/a legacy? I've looked at the short throw at teagues and it's sweet but I don't have $199 to spend and need to address my sloppy ass shifter soon. What causes the shifter to get so sloppy? Is it the gear box, or shifter bushings or what? I'm not familiar with the manual setup at all (obviously) so some advice would be very helpfull.

Silly question. . . . but what if you've got a WRX tranny with an EJ20 under the hood?

Does the position of the shifter on the Legacy chassis present any linkage issues with the WRX tranny position in relation to it? :D

I know. . . WAY off-topic. :P
