Favorite Car Movie

Post by evolutionmovement »

To me a car movie isn't just about cars, but the lives around cars that make them interesting...

For example, unless I'm forgetting something, IMO 'Thelma & Louise' was the last good car movie (I haven't seen the remake of The Italian Job and don't plan to).

I like the ORIGINAL 'Gone in 60 Seconds' as a straight-out car movie, but I'd go with 'American Graffitti' as my favorite.

Ya, gone in 60 seconds was pretty good, the fast and the furious duo were just plain shitty ass movies. There was an old movie made in the 70's with Sarah fawcett (I think) called the great american race or something like that. Now that was a kick ass car flick, there was a japanese team in it with a black Subaru GL Hatch filled with computers. You guys know what flick I'm talking about 8) ??

Mark,
Cannonball Run with Burt Reynolds and Dom Delouise. One of the original car movies, and by far my favorite. Espically the hot girls in the Lambo that get pulled over by the lady-cop.

The actress was Farah Fawcett.

I got to agree with Art, I like Ronin. Not the best movie as far as content, but man, the movie is like a two hour long car chase. It's great!

ronin was the shit.

The road warrior again was the shit too.

Any of you see that movie where this truck chases down this car in the hills around cali? It's an old 70's movie....don't remember what the name of it was.

Another good truck/car movie is the one by stephen king, maximum overdrive.

The point was easily available movies with good car chases. Story quality doesnt matter.

The transporter wasnt so good either, but the car chases where fun and Qi Shu is a tasty little morsel.

Top three:

Italian Job (the original obviously...)
Ronin
Cannonball Run

My favourite bit in Ronin is the chase at the end where De Niro is in the white Peugeot 406 chasing the baddies in the BMW. Next time you see it, notice how scared he looks! Apparently this is because Remy Julienne Equipe (the French stunt team who also did the original Italian Job) used a right-hand drive 406 (ie UK model!) with a dummy wheel on the other side for De Niro to cling onto. The stunt was filmed real time with actual stunt drivers in all the other vehicles so the part where they're driving up the wrong side of the road is REALLY HAPPENING and De Niro is just a passenger...

The Subaru in the Cannonball Run was one of the early 4wd hatchbacks - don't know what they were called with you guys, but the nose is similar to the Brat pickups. From memory - could be wrong... :D

I liked the chase in Bullitt but the rest of it was pretty boring.

Josh, that movie was DUEL, spielberg's first movie, I believe. That is a good one.

Ciper's seen the good stuff. How about:

Two Lane Blacktop
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
Lost Highway (a couple cool car scenes)
