Mini Subaru Meet in Sacramento.

Post by TheSubaruJunkie »

Since I missed the S-Squared meet yesterday (4/3) I thought it'd be cool to show THAWA and Ryan a few back country roads outside of Sacramento. We met up at around 1pm, and then took off headed on I80 to Auburn. In Auburn we traveled down 49 and got onto 193 to Georgetown.
Was stuck behind a Volvo through most of 49, and then got stuck behind a pickup on 193, but we finally got to open it up alittle right before we entered Georgetown. At Georgetown we stopped to take a leak, get some soda... then head back out on 193, toward Placerville.
That stretch of road was brutal. Im not sure about Thawa and Ryan, but my car was taking every corner like my tires were made of Velcro. Of course I got them to break loose on occasion (ok, more often than not).
I was the only one that remembered to bring his camera, so photo's are few and far between, but nextime we'll have more photo's. And hopefully I'll have some new rims and get my suspension squared away.

Pix to enjoy:

The drive was a blast. It took us a lot quicker than we had origionally thought. We even saw a totally riced out Saturn Wagon with flaming stickers or paint or tint or something going across the side of its rear windows.

The best was seeing a riced out, lowered, totally ground affected civic. The driver was a young girl, and she had some kind of fake dual exhaust setup sticking out the back. Oh, and you can't forget Grandma sitting in the passenger seat in all her white headed glory. :)

Thawa was able to keep up with us fairly well. It goes to show that a n/a can hold its own. He did loose some breath going up hills. Both SubaruJunkie and I are pretty much stock as well.

My suspension wasn't really pushed to any major limit, but my tires had troubles. Those wrx tires just don't like heavy cornering. It was a blast anyways.

The scenary, when we stopped to look at it, was absolutely gorgeous. Next time we'll have to take some better setup shots with a better view.

yes it was a blast, and the s2meet wasn't all that fun anyway. We've definately got to have more legacies next time. And I've surely got to have new struts and shit. We've gotta do this again :D

Thawa, next time we'll take that one road. The gravel road I pointed out when we stopped to rest next to the honda.

Definatly need more Legacy's with us next time.

I don't recall what that section in particular was like, but I80 from Reno was one of the best drives I've taken.

I80 through the summit to Reno is an awesome drive, but its a freeway. This is a 2 lane highway that runs through the woods and mountains, alot less traffic and slower pace than I80 is.

I would've loved to join you guys, but I had to finish getting the new struts in...FINALLY!!! They make the car feel much younger :D. Today was a mini anniversary so I had to hang with the wife. Definitely next time.

Yeah, that's the part I was thinking of. It was a winding 2-lane road mostly down hill (from Reno to Sacramento) through the woods. I hit it at night and it was awesome. Might have to take that way back next time I go cross country.

Well if you followed I80, then you would have gone anywere from a 2 lane road to like a 5 lane road and back again. Plus it is fairly twisty for a freeway, and its all downhill for the most part. I like that drive. It sounds like you didn't take 80 the whole way, though. To get into the REAL twisty turnie woodsy roads you have to get off the freeway.

If anyone wants to meet up with us next time, that would be cool. Subarujunkie has a lot longer route planned that he wants to hit and it should be a lot of fun, he is just waiting for a larger group. I've driven these roads some, but not at much as him.

Man it was a blast though.

I want to get my suspension replaced before I make another road trip like we did today. It was fun and all, but at some moments it was scary (could only imagine how Thawa reacted when his rear end let loose).
