What does this nipple connect to? And what flows through it?

On the top of the EJ22T block, directly behind where it is stamped EJ22 what purpose does the brass nipple serve?

I believe it is for the oil blow-by from the valve covers but just wanted to be sure!

Thanks!

Yes, it's for crankcase ventilation. There's a black plastic tee (with really long sides) that connects that fitting to one fitting on each valve cover. You can see it in the PCV diagram here:

I don't know whether fumes flow into it or out of it though.

Actually, that's also a great picture to show where the oil gallery plug is on the rear. That would be helpful for anyone trying to install an oil pressure gauge or something.

The oil gallery plug is just to the right of the crankcase breather, correct?

Mike - Right.

THAWA - Hmm, I dunno... It does look like another oil plug. I bet that's what it is... But it's probably impossible to access once the water manifold and intake manifold are attached.

Yes, it is also an oil plug, as are the 14mm bolts (one on each block half) that give access directly to the oil passages that feed the heads.
