Post by Legacy777 »

It's really not too bad. http://www.need-desire.com

It's under the specifications tab.

Yeah, just saw it. The base Outback's about the same as a base GT which I think is turbocharged. I think I can guess which one's the better deal... Either way that's a hell of a lot of car for the price and doesn't even weigh much more than ours. Unlike the rest of the companies out there, Subaru has finally introduced a superior replacement model that's lighter as well as more powerful than the outgoing model.

I almost feel stupid spending money on mine when I could pick up one of these used in a few years instead for not much more.

I dunno. . . . I've just gotten very accustomed to mine. And it's a true overdrive 6-speed. . . so it saves on gas a little when cruising on the freeway.

However, should they ever decide to release a Legacy STi in the states, I'd expect to see one as standard equipment in it. ;)

definately want the six speed...for reliability if nothing else...but at least the new five speed has some significant changes that should strengthen it a good bit...i think...

25,900 for a legacy gt sedan 5 spd with a ej257. that is about the same price as a na gt has been for the last few years. not a bad deal at all.
I too am very tempted. but could not give up the sti 6spd box w/ the sure track lsd's for a wrx 5 spd box. as well as the brembo's.
I thought the flat 6 was gona have the 6 spd option like in other markets.
If we do get a legacy sti (or like) I would not be surprised to see the 6 spd sequential gearbox that they have in japan.

I heard that the 5 has been heavily reworked from what the WRX has. As long as there's a decent overdrive I don't care as much about an extra gear - think of the 85 lbs weight savings instead.

So that's a turbo Legacy starting around $26K!? That's what that seems like to me or am I dreaming?

What will touch it for the price? "Anyone, anyone? D-o-o economics? Voodoo economics..."

Honestly. . . . there'll be NOTHING in this class that will be able to compete with the Legacy GT for price, performance, and reliability. Again, Subaru will be pushing forward in a whole new way. . . . well, maybe not a whole new way. . . but adding upscale class and performance to an already very successful platform without increasing price to a notable level. . . . VERY COOL. ;)

what will touch it for the money? nothing in a luxery/sport sedan.
it should be very comperable to an s4 in virtually every wday. for half the price.
i know we can hope.
it is just a waiting game.
if soa doesn't build it then I will build it. which is fine too.

Hmmmm. . .

Wonder how well an STi Prodrive tranny and drivelines would mate up to a 2005 Legacy wagon. . . .

The 6th gear ratio on the 6MT is about even with the 5th gear ratio on the 5MT.

Does anyone else expect a Mitsubishi variant?

I mean, the Turbo Legacy of yesteryear was attacked by the Ford Taurus SHO (which will not be re-released), and the Galant VR-4.

Who knows. It would be nice if Subaru and Mitsubishi would get into a battle on American Soil. We'd all win then.

If I didn't have a combined $400 a month student loan payment.....I'd so have this car....

I could still probably afford one now......especially if I didn't plan on dumping the money into mine for the tranny & awd conversion this summer....

Yeah, there were stories that Mitsu planned on giving Subaru the 1-2 with the Evo introduction, but just before they got it out, Subaru brought out the STi. One Mitsu rep supposedly grabbed his crotch like "owww that hurts" at the STi unveiling

According to my 05 Legacy brochure, the GT tranny is "strengthened" to handle the extra power of the EJ257, it doesn't even begin to say how though...

"To reduce weight, plastics make up the unique intake manifold and the intercooler end-tanks. The intercooler is a high-flow unit, smaller and angled for maximum efficiency with the hood scoop. Manual transmission models weigh 22 lbs less than a WRX STi, though the Spec B variant weighs 22 lbs more thanks to the heavier wheels, tires and brakes"
