Gear ratio question...

Post by evolutionmovement »

Was in the junk yard this morning looking to replace the rusty rear tailgate handle piece and stumbled across a GL turbo with a very nice 3.7 LSD. This got me thinking because my FWD is 3.7 and I like the high gearing on the highway. I'm planning on converting to 4wd turbo, and was wondering:

1) Could I use this 3.7 rear end? This leads me to -

2) Could I change a turbo legacy transmission front diff to 3.7 using the ring gear (and aftermarket front LSD) from a fwd transmission or would I have to change the output shaft and everything else too?

Steve.

PS: Off topic, but I found a sweet front grille and headlight trim to a 1968 Chevelle. No dents and the center badge is fully colored. Looks original and could probably just use a polish. If anyone needs it, I could pick it up. Ebay has an NOS grille for a '69 @ $179.

Off-topic: How was the rest of the legacy you came across? I'm going to be in need of some serious parts soon. :(

Wagon or sedan and what year? I found seven in two yards; three wagons, four sedans, various styles, most AWD auto. There was an Outback, too (!). Didn't look banged up, but the airbags had blown. At least it had over 200K on it. (I still think of them as new. Getting old, I guess.)

Most had decent sides, but several were hit in the front. One of the wagons had been hit hard in the front passenger side with the front wheel ripped off and slammed through the passenger floor. Hope no one had been sitting there. Didn't see any blood stains... Most motors were stripped. No Diamond packs. Lot of decent spare lights and trim, though. Even a blue interior (sometimes I feel I'm the only one with the blue).

I'm up here in Massachusetts, I could get you stuff, but shipping may be expensive for doors or things like that.
