You should be able to search Google for auto transporters, but they'll likely be expensive. It's about a grand to ship a POS from Cali to MA. Wear and tear shouldn't be bad - I drove mine cross country.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Are you really worried about 1700 miles? Your car's got 128000 miles on it; another 1700 will be just a drop in the bucket, and the car probably won't even notice. Just change the oil before the trip if it'll be due before you get back. That's my take, anyway.
If you do want to ship it, though, I have heard good things about http://www.shipcar.com/ from a friend of a friend.
