I never thought the day would come...
Bike is officially sold.
$1900 to a local.
Car goes to the shop for a full and complete tune up this week. On the road, hopefully, by next week. VERY close to having the cash for the exhaust as well (around $300 shy, no big deal).
A coffee mug, custom seats, de-blinged, Intercooled, shift-booted, WRX-Wheeled, Boost Gauged, and now, after 84 days on the nose, I can FINALLY drive it on the street. This is the Summer of victory.
I can smell the steaks and halibut already. BBQ comin up guys!
WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Thanks man!
I've used 1/2 a tank in the 84 day wait. And that's just driving around my neighborhood!
Ahh, I can't wait. Cruising around with the 4-60 on and just listening to the roar of the almighty Boxer on boost.

I'm thinking standard Wednesday meet?
Official unveiling is unknown. Bike is gone by May 7th because the guy is moving to Colorado (perfect bike for the perfect place).
Unveiling depends on my mechanic. Gotta see what he has to say about it all. I'm going to have him do everything from stem to stern. Check/replace sensors, all fluids, check seals, brakes, everything. I MIGHT splurge right now and get some STi engine and tranny mounts and have him install them. There seems to be an awful lot of drivetrain lash, but I don't know how normal that is (I've only owned automatic suby's in the past).

Awesome!
There's generally a lot of clunkage when you shift just because of all the places in the drivetrain that slop can exist.
Hey, when the cicadas come out, you should collect a bunch of the nymphs and toss 'em in the freezer to save for the BBQ.

*shudder* I usually draw the line at eating bugs, but what the hell, lol.
Vikash - I thought you were a vegetarian, lol.
I suppose the point about the clunkage is a good one. It just seems that when I let off the throttle there is a TON of lash and jerking.
I'll have my mechanic check it out, and if they need replacing, I'll get STi mounts instead of OEM style.

Yeah, the nymphs are supposed to be good... The adults aren't so good though supposedly.
I'm trying to decide whether insects would count as being permitted by my "seafood" rule... I was pondering the same question with escargot earlier but I decided to sidestep the issue by having a different dish.

here's my theory on semi-vegetarianism
If the animal allows you to take it's life (ie: fish on hooks, crabs in traps, whatnot) then you're good. If the cicada runs away, dont eat it. if you can somehow lure it into a jar and stick that in the freezer, i think that'd be okay. I once met a vegetarian that didnt eat anything that bleeds, i brought up the point that when you cut fruits and vegetables, they bleed sap, so she clarified that she didnt eat things that bleed red blood.

I never got the point of escargot. Snails. Eh, not my bag. I like to eat things that could have, at least potentially, run away from the captor.
Oh damnit, I just realized that the BBQ will be during the thick of the Cicada session. Might have to get creative with the location, lol. My backyard is cicada friendly.
Should we postpone until post-cicada, and maybe when our pool is open? Backyard is ugly now since the pool is drained and... well, full of gross shit.
If you guys just don't care, then I'll post up a time!

So if you are smarter than an animal, you get to eat it?LaureltheQueen wrote:If the animal allows you to take it's life (ie: fish on hooks, crabs in traps, whatnot) then you're good.

how is a fish on a hook or a crab in a trap allowing you to take their life. When was the last time you caught a fish and it didn't fight you when you reeled it in, or flap around when you were holding it up in the air by it's jaw?

Phil - Have you ever had escargot prepared well?
In my opinion, the barbecue'd probably be more fun without cicadas all over the place. Later in the summer also means I'm more likely to be able to come.
Laurel - Every animal that people kill has "allowed" its life to be taken. Otherwise it wouldn't be dead.

it's the fact that the fish came to you.
besides, cows are cute. that's my justification for eating animals, and the cuteness of the animal dictates how often i eat it, and how guilty i feel each time i take a bite. I know, it doesnt make sense, but that's okay with me.

Vikash - I have not. I guess I should give them a shot.
Only thing I absolutely won't eat are mushrooms. Everything else, I'm pretty open to.
Later in the summer wouldn't be a bad thing. I'll ask my dad when we are painting the pool and we can work from there.
On a semi-related note...
Vikash - Will you be in town anytime in the near future? I've got a Boost gauge and a CD suspender dealie (well, still gotta find that) with your name on them. Within the next few weeks, I'll need a boost controller and FCD. I'd like to save shipping if at all possible.

The fish came to you because you tricked it, right? And then you overpowered it in order to gut and fillet it.
The cows died because you managed to herd the cattle into the slaughterhouse, and then overpower them to stun and then slaughter them.

Phil - Oh, I love mushrooms. Have you ever had a really well-prepared mushroom dish, like a vol au vent with morel, crimini, porcini, portabello, and champignon de paris in a cream sauce?
You might change your mind.
So many people think they don't like a kind of food because so many foods are hard to find really well-prepared.
I think I might be in town for several hours this weekend. I don't know if I'll have time to meet up though... Let's try though. I'll give you a call when I know what time I'll be doing what.
I've made your FCD and the MBC is almost complete except that I don't have an appropriate spring on hand. I'll just get one from Home Depot or a hardware store.

See, that's what the fish think.
"HMM, free food. Well shit, this is one nice guy up there. Guess he want's me to be healthy. Hey pal, can I get a beer?" Then BAM. They are sizzlin on a grill. They don't know that there is a predator on the other end of the line, just that something is being offered to them.
Hardy offers you a ride. You wouldn't know if he was a cannibal or not. Not like he's got a "Dahmer for president" sticker or anything. He's just offering you a ride.
