MPG Intake vs K&N

I was just wondering if the K&N/coffe mug setup is better than an intake, considering gas mileage and MAF issues, as gas prices seem to be climbing im considering going back to my k&n filter instead of my intake, which is kinda "turbulent" since its composed of hacked bits of an N/A intake.

I'd say experiment. Go with whatever gives the best mileage.

I think going back to the stock airbox makes a lot of sense if you want the best mileage, since that's the setup the ECU and MAF combo are calibrated for.

I make it a habit to reset my trip odometer each time I fill up. Then I divide the total miles by how many gallons I put in. Its usually around 16/17 city 24/25 highway.

I measure the same way and get 22 to 25 mixed highway and city. Stock airbox with K&N drop-in filter.

29.4 with a paper filter and a snorkusuctomy at 80mph.
I'm of the opinion that you cant beat stock for fuel economy.... unless you're putting on tall hard compound tires.

17ish MPG with a K&N and mugged. Mixed street/highway driving. Shifting 80% of the time at 3-3500RPMS. Quarter to half throttle.

I don't see why cone air filters would have worse gas mileage than stock box. Every time I modify my stock intake I get better mileage. Now it is 28-29mpg in the city (Albuquerque, lots of highway driving) and 30-31mpg on the highway at 80mph. I get 26-27 in small towns, where there is no highways and a bunch of stop-n-go traffic. I can't say I drive gently - green means go!
