Is this a good price and a reasonable swap

Post by bignose »

My 94 legacy turbo wagon 4EAT is slipping pretty horribly in fourth.. A friend has a 5MT from a 2000 2.5 Rs he's willing to sell me.

How does this sound

60,000km's [non abused]
Transmission, shift linkage, 4.11 LSD , flywheel and clutch
and he's willing to deliver it 1800km's sicne he's making a trip home anyways.

1200$ canadian.

That would leave my shopping list down to pedal box, interior parts , master cylinder and driveshaft.

Is this a reasonalble price and a good swap considering it looks like i need a new tranny/rebuild anyways.

Thanks.

ask him for the rear half shafts, cause you're gunna need em, personally I'd try to find a turbo tranny, but that's just me.

I'm in a geographical location where lots of parts aren't easy to come by. Thus making this very attractive.

I basically just want to know if this is a POOR price or not.

just rear I assume. That better be all otherwise I might be screwed myself :\

The reason you need the rear halfshafts is our differential has the stubs sitcking out from it which the halfshafts slide into, whereas the rs's have the stubs sticking out from the halfshafts and slide into the differential.

I wish I could help you here Bignose. I know where there is a 4eat with 150,000kms on it, but like you said, since the parts for our cars are rare around here I'm sorta keeping it under wraps for the unfortunate time that mine dies.

I can tell you that the front axles on the turbo 4EAT are the same as the 5MT.

I think you should just be concerned about the rear. You could have someone swap out the gears in your existing diff, if it's compatible, and keep the existing pumpkin and halfshafts. The price would probably be similar and be less labor as well.

Good luck :D

You will ALSO need the cross member from a 5MT and some other parts IIRC. Look at smallcar.com for the SVX swap and pretty much copy what parts you'll need for that for your car.
