VF10 Legacy RS Turbo

Post by FORSAKEN »

VF10 Legacy RS Turbo, How much would this flow on its own? What would happen if you mixed it with a 1600 Blue Top Engine (Limited Edition) in a 1985 mazda bfmr....

That's seriously the most random question ever to be asked.

Um, I'd say... I dunno, not much.

The BFMR is the same as the 323, right?

In the US at least, there was a fairly rare form of the 323 called the GTX that had a 1.6 liter engine with an IHI
RHB5 turbo on it... it made in the neighborhood of 130 hp and 135 lb-ft.

The VF10 is probably a decent upgrade from the stock turbo since it flows enough on a Legacy RS to make in the neighborhood of 200hp, although the same pressure ratio as used on the Legacy wouldn't yield as much flow on the Mazda's smaller engine.

Without knowing more about this particular setup (including intercooling, peak boost, and engine management) it's hard to say anything more that would be useful.

didn't 5mt turbos here get the VF 10? I checked out Snowjob's new Legacy RS engine he imported 2 weeks ago and it had a VF 8 on it, it was mated with a 5MT tranny.

IIRC this is the break down for the turbos:

USDM Legacy turbo 4eat - VF10
USDM Legacy turbo 5mt - VF11

Liberty RS - VF12
I don't know about the VF8, did the Euro Legacy RS's get that instead of the VF12 like the Liberty RS's?

The North American parts catalog lists the same turbo unit part number for all models: 14412AA070.

Well, I know that some have the VF11 and some have the VF10. In a past discussion we (not you and I Vikash, but many people) came to the conclusion that we thought the 4eat's got the VF10 because they couldn't utilize the VF11 as well as the 5mt. If it's not an auto, manual thing, then maybe it's a model year thing? I'm not sure.

Is it possible to see the turbo part number while it's still on the engine?

It'd probably make in the neighborhood of 150bhp. The 323 was light as a feather though, so it would make good use of that power.

I was behind a 323gtx in my 95 N/A once. Dead even in the straights (on the highway), and I had a bit of trouble keeping up in the turns. That was a wild run through the backroads. That little bitch was FAST, I had trouble keeping up.

I thought only the STi version Legacy RS RA got the VF 12. Apparently it'll flow nearly as much as a TD05H

Hmm..I don't think so. It seems like the Ausie and and NZ guys like rsstiboy were always talking about their stock VF12's on the Liberty RS's. I'm not 100 % sure of anything though.....

My 91 4eat has a vf10, and yes you can see the numbers with the turbo still on the engine, but you have to remove the intake elbow from it.
