I'd just use whatever motor oil you're putting in the crankcase. I thought that was pretty standard. I haven't heard of using machining oil.

Any rubber gasket/o-ring in the engine is probably best lubed up with motor oil. And our engines make good use of rubber gaskets.

The only gasket I can think of off the top of my head that uses something besides motor oil is the water pump gasket. That one takes RTV sealant, because it's metal...

Well, you're not supposed to use any kind of sealant on intake manifold gaskets, I'm pretty sure. That's probably true for the throttle body gasket and the IAC valve gasket too.

thanks guys...I called marren, the company that cleaned the injectors for me and they agreed...a light motor oil. I used an oil with a lot of conditioners for seals...figured that would work well.
thanks
