I've recently bought a 20L Turbo estate I use it for work doing around 120miles per day. Living in the UK it's costing me an absolute fortune. About £40 per tank gets me 240miles thats with a full load and roof rack/ladders and my right foot. I love the speed and the sound I really do but the expence is not good. There's smiles per gallon but there has to be a limit. Does anyone know if these beasts can be converted to LPG can LPG cope with the TURBO. In the uk LPG is half the price of petrol.
Please help I don't want to sell me Legacy.
Thanks
I'm gonna sound dumb, i think.. but is LPG some kind of compressed natural gas that burns cleaner? tell us what LPG is first.. and i must extend our American Sympathies (what a concept!) to you across the pond, as our gas prices aren't much better.. drive your car thru an embassy or something..(don't really!) Look into modifying your intake.. more air will increase your fuel mileage, as will lightening your load.. and you mentioned your foot? driving slower, of course, will optimize your fuel efficiency..
Good luck,
LPG Liquid Petroluim Gas// petrol in a compressed gas form You basicaly have a heavy gas tank in your boot/trunk. You start your engine on petrol/liquid then flick a switch and run your engine of compressed gas/LPG over here in the uk it is half the cost and runs a lot cleaner your oil doesn't go black at all.
But it's the cost that is the key. Anyhow if anyone has done this please drop me a line or link. sicknote@hotmail.com
Umm yes the gas prices are better here. I was in Sweden a few months back and it was 2 Euro per litre. Isnt there 2.2 litres in a gallon. So thats like 5 bucks a galon

Ok, see, i thought LPG was similar to CNG, cause that's the only other alt-fuel i can think of that's widely used.. i know public/mass transit uses CNG, but i'd never heard of LPG.. i suppose it's possible to run another tank in your trunk, filled with LPG, but there again, it's another load on your wagon that already seems stressed... you pack a carfull of tools and whatnot, right? figure you're adding more weight to the car just to keep it going at a decent price.. weigh your options, my friend.
I know LPG doesn't make the same mileage as gasoline, so it may be cheaper, but you'll use more of it. I can't see why it wouldn't work, though. What kind of control is there for fuel delivery? That would be the key - to see if it can accomodate the stock sensors and increase fueling as necessary with forced induction. I'd suggest talking to an expert. I've heard of a company (can't think of the name now) that sells kits and converts cars to LPG. It seems it's pretty popular with Bristol owners - must be the V8 and the eccentric owner base.

Thanks for your replies it seems lpg is un heard of out side the uk. LPG gives you more miles per gallon and it's half price around 35pence per litre. However it does give you sligtly less performance. It's very popular with people who drive V8's and other fuel guzzlers!
Yes I think i will seek advice from an expert thanks all the same.
Thanks again everyone.

no buddy its more like 3.8l=1 gallon so your looking at like 8 euro's a gallon ouch!
Glad I'm in america where gas is still cheap!
all of the propane and NG setups take serious modifications. The whole intake and sensors are adjusted/changed for this. where I am at, it's not uncommon for the trucks with 350's to run the Ng setup. But there are changes to the fuel lines, pumps etc. Also the tank is heavier. I don't think they make any kits for the subaru. Normally, the NG tank is heavier and larger than the normal gas tank, so you lose in the weight department. And as far as I know, all the engines as N/A, I am not sure what a turbo would do to a NG setup.
Hell, go claim your own piece of Iraq and drill.
it's pretty much up for grabs ( or so it seems)
Speed comes at a price- whether its gas, or wheels, or a new turbo.
If it did not matter, I could take the bus
Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one
