.. with custom downpipe, and I'm loving it! All the cats have been removed, just left the WRX resonator. So far I've noticed decreased EGT temperatures as well as quicker spool-up. Not a bad purchase for $60.
The few posts I read here about the installs were a bit skewed. Hardly anything fit, 90% of it was pretty much custom work to fit it in. Needless to say, the shop wasn't pleased.. but they work on Subaru's quite often, so they got it in and looking good. I'll get some pics and sound clips up, because it sounds pretty badass. Not loud, but just enough to notice a difference.
I noticed almost no problems installing my exhaust, but it had been on a Legacy previously. I needed the Sawzall 3 times in the whole install (hack the stock downpipe to tranny bracket, and the heat shield that held the chimney on, and the rear section of the stock exhaust off). Everything was wicked smooth sailing once the stock downpipe was off. I could probably install and uninstall my exhaust now in about 20 minutes.
the stromung wrx turboback was pretty much bolt on. other than adding length to the center pipe and manipulating the brackets on the backbox. don't see why an oe exhaust would be much more difficult.
Dunno, the guys at the shop weren't too thrilled and they needed to tweak a few pieces to get it in "perfectly". I told them that the midpipe would need to be extended, but they said it was more than that. *shrug*
I'm really impressed with the DP, it looks and performs great.
But yea, I could pull this exhaust off the car in minutes now, since it's been modified.
Getting prepared for the VF39 upgrade.. now if RC Engineering will just hurry up with my injectors..
The mid pipe doesn't need to be extended. The axle-back portion does. The midpipe should bolt right to the cat, that bolts right to the downpipe.
That's how it was in my CES setup anyway, the only additional section was on the axle back.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to require some more info on the RC Engineering injectors...
I am anxiously awaiting Kelley's fuel upgrades as well. I'm almost drooling at the idea of 500cc + injectors and an engine management solution that can actually handle them and make them idle decently.
Just had a stock WRX turbo back system installed. Ron reported having to extend it in two different places. He also opted to install a new O2 sensor bung in the proper "Legacy" location and plug the stock WRX bung.
At least some of the rattling that I attributed to severly rusted heat shields was found to be a 14mm nut trapped in the pipe between the downpipe and the cat in the middle section.
All is quiet now, and the dual chrome tips look so much better than the single chrome tip paired with a single rusty tip from the old exhaust.
As soon as it stops raining, I'll describe exactly where the extended sections are.
